Public Education Forum at URI Tonight (and 4 More Things)

    Public Education Forum: At 7 p.m. tonight and each Tuesday evening through Dec. 10, the University of Rhode Island Fall 2013 Honors Colloquium will offer public education forums in Edwards Auditorium on the Kingston Campus. In this series, coordinated by David Byrd and Diane Kern, participants will explore how education still matters and debate key issues central to understanding the future of public schools and higher education.

    Gansett Historic District Meeting: Members of the Narragansett Historic District Commission will meet at 6 p.m. this evening at Narragansett Town Hall (25 Fifth Ave.). Agenda items include a review of ongoing Clean Ocean Access projects, Caswell Street cottage demolition discussion and officer reports. Click here to view tonight's agenda.

    Library Free Movie: Today from 2-4 p.m. and again from 6-8 p.m., the Narragansett Library (35 Kingstown Rd.) will host a free showing of the 2013 film, "Now You See Me", (PG-13), which tells the story of an elite FBI squad in a game of cat and mouse against 'The Four Horsemen', a super-team of the world's greatest illusionists. 'The Four Horsemen' pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances, showering the stolen profits on their audiences while staying one step ahead of the law. (Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco).

    Botanical Garden Tour: From 5-6 p.m. this evening and every Tuesday through September, a guided tour of the URI Botanical Gardens and Horridge Conservatory will be offered by the University. Take a stroll through the garden with Head Gardener Gabrielle Torphy and Brian Maynard, Professor of Horticulture. Participants will meet at 5 p.m. at the Outreach Center Gazebo (3 East Alumni Ave., Kingston). Suggested donation is $5, children under 14 are free.

    SK Farmers' Market: Skip the grocery store tonight and pick up some fresh fruits, veggies and baked goods at South Kingstown's outdoor Farmers' Market at Marina Park! From 2-6 p.m. each Tuesday through October, the Park will host the community market that also offers plants, handmade handbags and more. Click here for more information and to view a list of featured vendors.
