URI's Harrington School to Host Education Symposium Today (and 4 More Things)

    Education Symposium: From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, URI's Harrington School of Communication and Media will host "From Ranganathan to Read/Write: Managing Disruption in Libraries, Schools and Workplaces" in the URI Pharmacy Building (7 Greenhouse Rd., Kingston). The event is described as a symposium for educators, technologists, librarians, creative media professionals, students and thoughtful citizens. Participants will explore how to meet new and emerging needs in curriculum, library, writing composition and digital media teaching practices.     Walk-A-While Wednesday: From 12-1 p.m. today and each Wednesday through Dec. 4, URI's College of Human Science and Services in partnership with the Dept. of Kinesiology will host "Walk-a-While on Wednesdays".The new health initiative will be led by Kinesiology walking coaches who will guide participants through various mapped paths each session. The names of people who participate in at least eight sessions will be entered in a raffle for a free pair of sneakers from Feet First Quality Footwear.

    Friends of Gansett Library: This morning from 10-11 a.m., the Friends of the Narragansett Library will meet to discuss upcoming programs, events and fundraiser to benefit the Library (35 Kingstown Rd.) and its patrons. All are welcome.

    Ballroom Dance Lessons: Tonight and each Wednesday evening year-round, The Towers in Narragansett offers ballroom dance lessons led by instructors Sara Barker and Sue Davis. Ballroom lessons are held at 6 and 7 p.m., Tango at 8 p.m., followed by an open practice for all from 9-10:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person for Ballroom or Tango, or $22 per person for a full evening. Click here for more information.

    Tomorrow - Twenty40 Young Professionals Event: From 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, the Southern Rhode Island and North Kingstown chambers of commerce will host a Twenty40 Multi-Chamber Young Professionals Networking Event at Phil's Main Street Grille (323 Main St., Wakefield). $5 fee per person, cash bar. Click here to register.
