This Weekend: Great Art Heist, 'Y-Not-Tri' Triathlon and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Get star struck at the Frosty Drew Observatory's Public Stargazing Night (61 Park Ln., Charlestown), this and every Friday night at 6 p.m. Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow them on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about our public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.

Great Art Heist: The South County Art Association will be hosting its 8th annual fundraiser, The Great Art Heist, this Saturday Sept. 14, from  7-9 p.m. at the Helme House (2587 Kingstown Rd., Kingston). Members and artist friends of the South County Art Association have donated artwork of all kinds to the Art Heist and ticket holders will be able to pick their choice of artwork as their tickets are drawn from a hat. The last ticket drawn will receive the Grand Prize which shall be revealed on the night of the event. Tickets are $50 each and will be sold at the event until 7:30 p.m. Click here to view images of the available artwork.

Y Not Tri Sprint Triathlon: The South County YMCA and F.I.R.M, the largest triathlon production company in the Northeast, have partnered to host the Y Not Tri-South County Sprint Triathlon this Sunday, Sept. 15. The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Roger Wheeler State Beach (100 Sand Hill Cove Rd., Narragansett) and includes a .25 mile swim in Sand Hill Cove, three 2.9 mile loops through Galilee and a 3-mile run through the neighborhoods of Sand Hill Cove. Fees are $70 per person or $80 per relay team prior to the event or an additional $10 for same day registration. Click here for complete details or here to register online today!

Street Jammers at O-Mist: Stop by the Ocean Mist (895 Matunuck Beach Rd.) from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday for some live music from the Westmoreland Street Jammers. 6-member classic rock band brings a signature sound that includes three lead guitarists, keyboard, bass, drums and vocals.

Classic Country at the Elks: The South Kingstown Elks Lodge #1899, (60 Belmont Ave., Wakefield), will host classic country music by the "Mickie Lee Marshall Band" on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 1-5 p.m. Grab your ten-gallon hats and head on down for an afternoon of toe-tappin' tunes!
