Guided walk for Photographers - Amateur Digital Photography Competition: Winter at Canonchet Farm

Friends of Canonchet Farm Board member Kathie Kelleher will lead a guided walk to introduce photographers to the property on January 1st, 2014 from 1 to 3 PM. This free event is open to anyone, especially those interested in the Amateur Digital Photo Competition: Winter At Canonchet Farm which runs from December 21st 2013 through March 20th 2014.

We invite you to discover the winter beauty of the Canonchet Farm property. Participants are encouraged to experience and document all aspects of this unique open space: flora, fauna, vistas, visitors, and events. As winter arrives, a landscape freed of foliage opens to provide more expansive vistas across the wooded upland, through wetland areas to Pettaquamscutt Cove. Color relationships change, bringing a quieter, more subtle palate. The lacy profiles of trees offer new ways to identify plant species, and unique ways to see wildlife through footsteps recorded in the snow. Existing trails are the best way to explore the property, but if you must leave the trail to take a photograph, please do so in a way that does not disturb the environment.

Digital photos will be accepted in the following categories:
12 and under
12 to 18
18 and over

Jurors will select the photo that best captures the winter season at Canonchet Farm for a grand prize of $100. Two honorable mentions will also be chosen in each age category and awarded $25.

Photos can be submitted digitally to janthephotoman@gmail.com between December 21st – March 20th. Please include your full name, age category, a brief description, address and a contact number. Children under 18 should also provide a name and contact for a legal guardian. All entries will be exhibited on the Friends of Canonchet Farm Facebook page. Winning entries will also be published on our website, canonchet.org, and may be used in future educational literature about Canonchet Farm.

Although this contest is open to non-professionals only, artists of any age or experience level are always welcome to share their interpretations of Canonchet Farm with us on Facebook!
