Report Released for Fatal DWI Accident

According to witnesses quoted in a police report, Zachary Kahan, 23, was belligerent and drunk at a wedding the night of his fatal accident.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. Zachary I. Kahan, 23, of 39 Lantern Lane, Cranston, was arrested at about 1:22 a.m. on Sept. 9 and charged with felony drunken driving – death resulting – and felony reckless driving. According to police, patrolmen Gary W. Marquis and Robert Costantino were dispatched to 669 Moonstone Beach Road after receiving a report of a car striking a telephone pole. The 911 caller was identified as the 65-year-old male homeowner, Joseph W. Daniels. Marquis wrote that when they arrived, off-duty Cranston firefighter Jeffrey T. Crash in SK Kills Harrisville Woman

According to The Providence Journal, a single-car crash on Saturday night killed one, and the driver was charged with drunken driving.

According to The Providence Journal, a motor vehicle accident on Saturday killed one person, and the driver is being charged with drunken driving, death resulting. The one-vehicle accident involved a car driven by Zachary Kahan, 23, of Cranston, hitting a utility pole on Moonstone Beach Road at about 10:50 p.m., the Journal reports. The crash claimed the life of Tanya Chabot, 24, of Harrisville. Chabot was a student at the Community College of Rhode Island. Kahan graduated from Rhode Island College. According to online records, neither has a criminal record.
