Bobby Hurley, one of the most iconic figures in college basketball history, has been named the 12th men's basketball head coach at the University at Buffalo. He joins UB from the University of Rhode Island where he has been serving as associate head coach. UB Director of Athletics Danny White made the announcement on Tuesday at a 5:00 pm press conference at Alumni Arena. A walkathon will serve as this year’s spring fundraising highlight for South County Habitat for Humanity.

Registration is open for South County Habitat for Humanity’s annual “Pound the Pavement, Pound a Nail” walkathon, which begins and ends at the University of Rhode Island quadrangle on April 6. The 3-kilometer walk begins at 2 p.m., and all proceeds will support Habitat’s Old North Village on the edge of the URI Kingston campus. Immediately following the walk, Rhode Island lifestyle brand Alex and Ani will host a free concert on the quadrangle by its musical partners, Colour of London. Twenty-five years of water quality data collected by volunteers from the Watershed Watch program at the University of Rhode Island has shed light on the variability of the conditions of Rhode Island’s ponds, rivers and streams and how climate change and the increasingly severe weather affects them. These programs will allow students to gain further knowledge in a variety of career fields including transportation, construction, business, engineering, landscape architecture and maritime services. The URITC summer programs involve field trips, hands-on field experience and classroom exercises instructed by University of Rhode Island professors, students and industry professionals. Hillel, the Jewish center at the University of Rhode Island, is hosting events in April to honor victims of the Holocaust, the murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime. According to Rhody Rampage, URI Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn is leaving for the same position at Xavier.
Based on a report at Rhody Rampage, University of Rhode Island Athletic Director Thorr Bjorn is expected to take a similar job at Xavier University. Rhody Rampage is a fan site run by Dave Ascoli, affiliated with Sports Illustrated. His Twitter account is available here. Following Ascoli’s report, Shannon Russell of the Xavier Musketeers blog on Cincinnati.com issued a report saying that according to her sources, Xavier had not given the job to Bjorn. The Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara said that URI officials had no comment on reports that Bjorn was leaving. KINGSTON – For seemingly the 100th time this year, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball team saw a close game slip away in the second half, as the Rams couldn’t keep pace with a more talented opponent. For Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, the cast of characters changed, as the University of Massachusetts Minutemen played the role of past squads like La Salle, St. Bonaventure and VCU. However, the ending was the same, as the Rams lost 75-66. As usual, the Rams were within striking distance at the half, trailing by just a single point with about four seconds left.
