Thanks to Waves of Creation owner Laura Winward, and several other local businesses, a truck full of goods will be on its way this weekend to hurricane-affected areas in New York and New Jersey. According to Karen Forber, who is volunteering and helping Winward, donations have come in from Welcome House, Pier Pizza, Staples, Belmont Market, Sweenor’s and individuals. Forber said Winward grew up in New Jersey and Manhattan, which is why she organized the drive. “She’s been working her tail off on this,” Forber said. Other businesses identified as helping out on Waves’ Facebook page are Liberty Rentals, Point Judith Boats, Job Lot and Welcome Mart. More than 150 boxes have been filled so far. Staples, which has a store in Wakefield, will close 30 of its North American stores to try and boost revenue. The company, headquartered in Framingham, MA, didn't say which stores would be shuttered. It's also the second-largest online retailer; Amazon is No. 1. “We are focusing on our biggest opportunities, aligning our organization to address the needs of our customers, and reducing exposure to our weakest businesses,” said Ron Sargent, Staples’ CEO, in a statement. “This puts us in a much stronger position to drive long-term sales and earnings growth.” …

Theft from Staples linked to several similar crimes throughout R.I. and Masachusetts.
Monday's theft of three laptop computers from the Staples Office Store in Wakefield was not an isolated incident, according to the South Kingstown Police, but rather the latest in a string of burglaries spanning two states dating back to May. Police are searching for a suspect with the same description who allegedly stole laptops from Staples stores in Seekonk, North Attelboro and Attleboro in recent days. The most recent theft had occurred just hours earlier in Seekonk. There were multiple incidents of theft and attempted theft at Staples located in South Attleboro during the month of May and into early June, according to Attleboro Police Det. Sgt. Art Brillon. South Kingstown police responded to the Staples on Old Tower Hill Road around …

I want to give credit where credit is absolutely due. The original collection and arrangement and delivery of the truck was done by Tina Rojee of Raising Tides Helath and Wellness. We at Waves Of Creation wanted to do what we could to help the cause, and because we have a very large party room in our lower level, we became a drop off location. Tina was the one who pulled together all the …   more ›
