SK Woman Victim of 295 Pedestrian Accident

Bridget Menna, 81, of South Kingstown, was killed in a traffic accident on Route 295 on April 5.

Cranston Police have identified the 81-year-old woman killed in the accident on Route 295 on April 5 as Bridget Menna of South Kingstown. Police said the accident occurred just before 11 p.m.  The initial call had police thinking there was a stranded motorist on I-295 just south of Route 37, but when police arrived, they found several passers by tending to a Menna, who had been hit by a passing car. She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said Menna had stopped her green Kia SUV in the breakdown lane on an angle, "with her tires resting on the fog line," Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan said. Washington Trust Promotes SK’s DiSanto

South Kingstown resident Kristen Di Santo has been appointed Executive Vice President of Human Resources by Washington Trust.

DiSanto is responsible for leading all human resources functions, including staffing, training, organizational development and employee relations. In addition, she assists the board with executive compensation matters and SEC disclosures. DiSanto joined Washington Trust in 1994, and most recently served as Senior Vice President. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, DiSanto has a Bachelor of Arts in speech communication. SK Native A Rhode Show Finalist

Cassandra Albergaria, who works at Coleman Realtors in East Greenwich, is one of five contestants in The Rhode Show competition for next year's host.

Cassandra Albergaria positively exudes enthusiasm. It's paid off in her quest to be the next host for The Rhode Show. One of five finalists, Albergaria will find out Monday, Dec. 10, if she gets the nod.  Albergaria, born and raised in South Kingstown and a graduate of the Prout School, lives in Cranston. But she works at Coleman Realtors in East Greenwich and we met last Thursday at the Holiday Stroll. Albergaria was canvassing many of the shops on Main Street to tell them about The Rhode Show contest and to encourage them to vote for her. "I love just popping into all the stores on Main Street," she said Monday.  It's a big week for Albergaria. On Thursday she co-hosts the show, complete with an ear piece and teleprompter. A “Jump” In Right Direction for URI Equestrienne

Prout School graduate Mariel Saccucci is riding steady on some national equestrienne circuits, and maintaining a 3.78 GPA to boot.

Wakefield’s Manke Honored by NDIA

Olympians aren’t the only ones taking home medals, as Robert Manke earns a bronze (from the National Defense Industrial Association, but still).

Wakefield resident Robert Manke, an electrical engineer at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, has been selected as a winner of the National Defense Industrial Association Bronze Medal for 2012.  The NDIA Bronze Medal is an annual award that recognizes outstanding individual achievements in science or engineering in the field of undersea warfare.  Manke, a strategic assessment analyst in the Office of the Director of Undersea Warfare at NUWC, provides analytical input to NUWC senior leadership on matters pertaining to USW readiness and corporate strategic direction for improving fleet technical and operational capabilities.  For more than 35 years, Manke …
