SK Police Log: December 11 and 12, 2012

A South Kingstown man is charged with firing an AR-15 in his backyard.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. South Kingstown Man Charged With Firing AR-15 in Compact Area Christopher S. Babcock, 24, of 83 Mautucket Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 11 and charged with firing in a compact area. According to police, on Dec. 11 they received several reports of shots fired on Mautucket Road. Police said that based on the reports, the gunfire was traced to 83 Mautucket Road. Peacedale Man Charged For Allegedly Flashing Gun

James B. Brennan, 65, is accused of threatening two men with a gun after his rocks hit their truck while he was mowing his lawn.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. James B. Brennan, 65, of 231 Curtis Corner Road, Peacedale, was arrested at about 5:49 p.m. on July 25 and charged with felony assault. According to police, they were called to a home on Curtis Corner Road after receiving a 911 call. The caller told a dispatcher that an elderly man had pointed a gun at them. Police said that when they arrived, they saw Brennan sitting on a stone wall, and a green truck parked in his driveway with two men in it. The two men told police that Brennan was mowing his lawn, and debris from the mower shot out into the street, hitting their truck. They …

Thanks for the extra info Stephen. That's interesting that they were in his driveway but you still have no right to self-defense in RI even if someone is on your land. You must first make an attempt to retreat which it doesn't sound like he did. Wakefield Man Arrested for Drinking in Police Station

Peter J. Yrchik Shoemaker is arrested after allegedly drinking in the lobby of the police station, and he helpfully tells officers he has cocaine.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. Peter J. Yrchik Shoemaker, 20, of 136 Briarwood Drive, Wakefield, was arrested at about 3:41 a.m. on July 25 and charged with felony drug possession, felony carrying a weapon while intoxicated and possession of a beverage by an underage person. According to police, at about 3:33 a.m. Shoemaker was in the lobby of police headquarters and said that he wanted to turn himself in. However, there was one problem with this – police said there were no warrants out for his arrest. They talked with Shoemaker, and noted that he believed it to be July 27, not July 25.
