Police: Man Tries to Walk Away from DWI Accident

According to police, a South Kingstown man tried to walk away after a drunk driving accident. South Kingstown police logs from March 26, 2013.

Bowden, 56, of 25 Amos St., Apt. #4, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 10:21 p.m. on March 26 and charged with drunken driving and driving with a suspended license, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, they received a report of a car accident near Benny’s. Police said that when they arrived, Bowden was attempting to leave the area on foot. Jamestown Man Charged With Drunken Driving – Second Offense Joseph D. Pinheiro, 26, of 161 Beacon Ave., Jamestown, was arrested at about 11:59 p.m. on March 25 and charged with drunken driving – second offense – and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, they received a report of a car accident involving Pinheiro’s vehicle rear-ending another car. Bill Passed for Penalties for DWI With Child Passengers

A bill that stiffens penalties for drunken driving charges with children in the car has passed the Rhode Island Senate, and now heads to the House.

On Wednesday, the Senate today approved legislation sponsored by Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin to stiffen penalties for adults who drive under the influence with a child in their vehicle. “Driving under the influence is a serious offense, but it rises to a new level of danger when it endangers a helpless child. People who drive drunk with a child in their cars are committing a much more serious crime than DUI, and they deserve a much more significant sentence,” said Senator Goodwin (D-Dist. 1, Providence). “This bill sends a message that putting a child’s life at risk in this way will not be tolerated in Rhode Island.” Current Rhode Island law allows those convicted of DUI who committed …

According to police, they received a 911 call about an erratic operator on Route 1. Texting Firefighter Charged With DWI

According to South Kingstown police, Sean Newton, 23, was in his uniform and told officers he was texting when he hit a sign on Route 1.

Newton, 23, of 80 Brookwood Road, Wakefield, was arrested at about 7:10 p.m. on March 16 and charged with drunken driving and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. Police and Newton said he works for the Woonsocket Fire Department. According to police, they received multiple 911 calls about a car – driven by Newton – striking a guardrail on Route 1 near Spartina Cove. Dewey, 19, of 4 Sunset Ave., Wakefield, was arrested at about 3:18 a.m. on March 14 and charged with drunken driving and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, an officer traveling behind Dewey’s car on Broad Rock Road saw it hit a curb, swerve, nearly hit a mailbox and then hit a branch that was completely off the roadway, beyond the breakdown lane. South Kingstown Man Charged With Drunken Driving Christopher M. Lee, 34, of 97 Liberty Lane, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 6:32 p.m. on March 13 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, they received a report of a truck rolling over on Kingstown Road. Police said they responded and were able to remove the driver – Lee – from the truck. Palrao, 41, of 160 Gervais St., Coventry, was arrested at about 9:33 p.m. on Feb. 23 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test and driving with open alcohol containers. According to police, an officer came across a truck driven by Palrao stopped in the middle of Tower Hill Road, with its turn signal on. Providence Woman Charged With Drunken Driving Kelly Mills, 44, of 71 Ardmore Ave., Providence, was arrested at about 10:16 a.m. on Feb. 22 and charged with drunken driving with a blood alcohol level greater than .15. According to police, an officer said Mills appeared to be intoxicated and driving near the parking lot of the Breakfast Nook II and United States Postal Service office.
