[VIDEO] SK Volleyball Grounds Hawks, Win State Title

Rallying from a 2-1 deficit after three games, the Rebels take the state title with a 15-13 fifth set.

PROVIDENCE – The South Kingstown Rebels are the state champions in boys’ volleyball, after rallying several times from deficits in individual sets to beat the Bishop Hendricken Hawks 3-2 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy. After taking the first game 25-21 and getting set point in the second, it looked like the Rebels had firm control of the state final. However, Hendricken rallied, turning away two set points for South Kingstown, and won the second 27-25. Hendricken controlled almost all of the third set, despite a deceptive final score of 25-22. The Hawks lead by three to six points for most of the set. However, South Kingstown rallied back in the fourth game, and controlled most of it. At one point, the Rebels led 20-13, and…

HS Playoff Roundup: Rebels, Crusaders Alive on Diamond

In baseball action, South Kingstown and Prout are both a game away from McCoy Stadium in their respective divisions.

Woonsocket thorn in Narragansett's side, but not Prout's While Narragansett had problems with Woonsocket in the Division II playoffs, that difficulty did not extend to another South County team, the Prout Crusaders. In the opening game of the Division II Final Four, Prout beat Woonsocket 3-1. For a box score from The Providence Journal, click here. Prout scored their runs on a combination of walks, wild pitches and steals. The two teams play again today at Pierce Field in East Providence. A time hasn't yet been posted on the RIIL website, but typically, teams play either at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. on school days. 5 THINGS: Sports Is Back! We’re Back!

Sorry for that unscheduled Five Things absence, but with the restart of the spring sports season, we’re back as well.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, April 4, 2012: “Tell your boss what you really think about him and the truth shall set you free.” – Patrick Murray. There will be a career fair at the University of Rhode Island’s Ryan Center today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you’re going, dress professionally and bring copies of your resume. The fair is free to attend. Hey, speaking of fairs! There will be a health and wellness fair in the Memorial Union at URI today from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be blood pressure and glucose screenings, plus more. The event is free.
