Release courtesy of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. The following 11 distinguished athletes, coaches and administrators will be inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013 on Wednesday, May 8 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick.

With the basketball seasons winding down, several local teams are jockeying for position.
As usual, playoff seeding for the Division II girls’ basketball could come down to a grudge match between Narragansett and East Greenwich. The game starts at 7 p.m. at East Greenwich High School. The Mariners are 13-2 in Division II play, and the Avengers, at 12-3, need a win to force a tiebreaker for the regular season division crown. According to The Providence Journal, on Tuesday the Mariners beat West Warwick 51-37. However, the Avengers beat Prout (9-6 Division II) the same night on layup by Keri Pallister for a 46-45 win. Thanks to a win on Tuesday over Barrington, the Mariners are now in the boys’ basketball tournament semifinals.
A 45-38 win against the No. 3E seed Barrington on Tuesday has propelled the Pier School Mariners to the middle school boys’ basketball state tournament semifinals for the second time in three years. The Mariners are scheduled to play No. 1E Portsmouth at Portsmouth Middle School on Friday. However, thanks to the impending blizzard, there is a high probability this game will be shifted to Monday, Feb. 11 or later. The state title game is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Bay View Academy. Both the Pier School and Curtis Corner Middle School have games today in the boys’ basketball state tournament.
The Narragansett Pier School looks to defend its home court today, while Curtis Corner Middle School will have to win on the road, in their respective middle school boys’ basketball tournament playoff games. The Mariners are the No. 1 seed from the Southern Division, and received a preliminary round bye as a result. Although both the Mariners and Curtis Corner finished 11-1, with the lone loss coming against each other, the Pier School led the Southern Division in points scored and points against. After the preliminary round bye, the Pier School beat No. 4E Kickemuit (Bristol-Warren) 69-29 in the opening round.
