The Division I girls’ basketball playoffs go all-chalk, as favorites La Salle and Westerly easily turn away South Kingstown and Bay View.

PROVIDENCE – With about 11 minutes left in the first half, No. 1 seed La Salle was having a bit of trouble with No. 9 South Kingstown. The Rebels fought back from an 8-2 deficit to get within one, 10-9, on a 3-point shot by senior Michaela Lawler. However, Rams’ sophomore Davida Dale then asserted her presence, and showed why ESPN has her graded at 92, and a four-star prospect. Coming in off the bench, Dale scored 20 points and stole nine passes in a dominant all-around performance for La Salle. SK’s Johnson Tabbed for RIIL Hall of Fame

South Kingstown’s Raymond Johnson is one of 11 former athletes being inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Hall of Fame in the Class of 2013.

Rebels Win Swimming State Title

The Rebels use three wins from the Karpowicz twins, and two relay victories as well, to take the state title.

Thanks to dominant performances in the pool at Brown University’s Coleman Aquatics Center on Saturday from sophomore twins Jackie and Kristin Karpowicz, the South Kingstown Rebels are state champions in girls’ swimming. According to The Providence Journal, the Rebels beat North Kingstown 310-225. Barrington took third place with 217 points, and La Salle was fourth with 216. SKHS Student Charged With Domestic Offenses

South Kingstown High School student Matthew Sklarski, 18, is arrested twice in a two-day span for separate domestic offenses.

Unless otherwise noted, information about the following incidents was supplied by the South Kingstown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. Matthew K. Sklarski, 18, of 44 Mulberry Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 9:15 p.m. on Nov. 19 and charged with domestic assault. Police said Sklarski is a student at South Kingstown High School. According to police, they received an in-station complaint from a 17-year-old South Kingstown girl about Sklarski. The girl told police that Sklarski had assaulted her outside of Jim’s Dock, based on the dissolution of their three-month relationship. Police noted that the girl had injuries consistent with an assault, and she and her father told police that Sklarski had been …

According to The South County Independent and readers, North Kingstown wins the annual Thanksgiving match-up thanks to a fourth quarter stand.

According to several readers, the North Kingstown Skippers beat the South Kingstown Rebels, 20-16, at North Kingstown High School on Thanksgiving Day. The loss means that the Rebels will finish the 2012 season winless. South Kingstown won an Injury Fund exhibition against Chariho, but otherwise didn’t win a game this year. In contrast, the win snaps a long losing streak for North Kingstown, which last won on Sept. 22 against Pilgrim High School. It’s a minor upset, considering that South Kingstown is a Division I squad. Although the Rebels went winless this year, it’s still rare for Division I teams to lose to lower-division teams. RIHS Football Poll – Thanksgiving Edition

RIHS Football Poll – Johnston tumbles down the polls after being upset in the Division II playoffs.

After being upset by Central in the opening round of the Division II playoffs, the Johnston Panthers have dropped from No. 5 to No. 11 in the Rhode Island Sports Media High School Football Poll. No. 10 West Warwick and No. 13 Central took advantage of the loss, moving up four and five sports, respectively. The highest ranked Division II team is now Cumberland, at No. 5. La Salle remains in the top spot of the poll, collecting all 14 first place votes, followed by fellow Division I playoff teams Hendricken, Portsmouth and Cranston East. Portsmouth and East flip-flopped in the polls after the Thunderbolts barely beat South Kingstown 23-17. Thanksgiving games for most teams take place either Wednesday or Thursday of this week. [VIDEO] Rebels Win JV Title 3-0 Against Oakers

South Kingstown gets two goals from Michael Gross in a 3-0 win against Coventry in the JV boys’ soccer title game.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The Rebels controlled the midfield and time of possession for a 3-0 win in the junior varsity boys’ soccer title game against Coventry Wednesday night at Curtis Corner Middle School. South Kingstown scored first, with 11:50 left in the second half. Freshman Aiden McCaughey got to a 50-50 ball before the Coventry goalkeeper, and poked the ball past the keeper and defenders. Immediately after his kick, McCaughey was knocked to the ground, a sign of things to come for both teams. The play was physical throughout, with referees telling players to play on, as most of the contact didn’t lead to advantages. South Kingstown scored again with 5:43 left in the first half. RIHS Football Poll – Week 9

La Salle remains in the top spot, and they remain undefeated.

Back after a week’s absence – thanks Sandy! – not much has changed in the top six. Although the order has switched around a bit, La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth remain the top four in the state. La Salle remains undefeated, while the other three have traded wins and losses against one another. Behind the top four in Division I lurk the best two teams – so far – in Division II, Johnston and Cumberland. After the top six is where the ballot gets jumbled, with a mixture of mediocre Division I programs, good Division II programs and great Division III programs. RIHS Football Poll – Week 7

La Salle takes all 14 first place votes in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, after Hendricken is beaten by Portsmouth.

All 14 first place votes went to No. 1 La Salle this week, after No. 3 Hendricken took its first loss of the season, 39-13, to No. 2 Portsmouth. The win puts the Patriots in good position for a home game in the Division I playoffs, as long as they can win Friday against No. 4 Cranston East. The Thunderbolts can muddy the picture further with a win of their own though. The big movers in this week’s poll were No. 13 West Warwick, No. 18 Westerly and No. 19 East Providence, although for the wrong reasons. All three teams fell at least five spots after losses. The top seven remain unchanged, and South Kingstown remains unranked after another loss, in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll.

Inaction is the new action, as the top seven remain unchanged in the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, after a weekend of mostly winning. No. 3 Cranston East lost, but it was to Hendricken, and while they lost a first place vote and about 25 points in the polls, it wasn’t enough to drop below No. 4 Portsmouth. No. 7 Barrington lost to Tolman, which caused the Tigers to jump two spots in the polls, up into a tie at No. 10 with East Greenwich. However, the loss of 30 poll points for the Eagles weren’t enough for No. 8 West Warwick to overtake them. All 20 teams from last week’s poll stayed in this week.
