5 THINGS: Veterans Day Parade Today!

Pay tribute to veterans with the annual South Kingstown parade.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Sunday, November 11, 2012: The South Kingstown Veteran’s Day Parade is at 1 p.m. The route starts on Holly Street, behind Benny’s, and concludes at Saugatucket Park – For the full route, click here. The memorial ceremony starts at about 2 p.m. at the park, with retired Marine Corps Colonel James Halderman serving as the master of ceremonies. The South Kingstown High School and Chariho High School bands will also play. Clean up for a good cause. The Bike Stop Café is sponsoring a public clean-up of Narragansett Town Beach from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. For more info, check out this Facebook event. Oh no! Today: Honor Those Who Fought for Our Freedom

Here are 5 things to know today, Friday, Nov. 11.

1. Thank a Veteran Today Veteran's Day is much more than a day out of work or school. Today is a day to step back and reflect on the enormous sacrifices the veterans of our country have made to defend our way of life and protect the freedoms we are so priviledged to enjoy. Most know someone who fought in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan and countless other military operations around the world. Make an effort to seek out those people today and thank them for all they have given us. And take a moment to think about those who can't be thanked in person. 2. Everyone Loves a Parade The South Kingstown Veteran’s Day Parade, sponsored by the American Legion Post 39 and the town of South Kingstown, will kick off at 10 a.m. today. …

EVENT OF THE DAY: Something Different in Saugatucket Park

The Contemporary Theater Company hosts the Wakefield Arts and Entertainment Festival tonight, tomorrow night and all weekend.

Looking for something different to do? Head to Saugatucket Park, 99 High St. in downtown Wakefield, tonight, tomorrow and all weekend for some unique entertainment. The Contemporary Theater Company is hosting the Wakefield Arts and Entertainment Festival, beginning today from 4:30 to 10 p.m., featuring a RiverFire, the comedy of "Red Herring," an imaginative retelling of "Peter Pan" for the kids, as well as performances by Santa Mamba, La Bella Musica, Fly Around and the Bit Players The festival continues through the weekend with the following schedule: For a complete list of events, click here.
