The Avenger Boys Lacrosse team bests the Rebels 11-2 in Sunday's final at Brown's Stevenson Field.
For a team with a reputation for slow starts, the Avengers seemed determined to not let that happen Sunday, when they played for their third-straight Division II state championship against the South Kingstown Rebels. The first quarter ended with EG up 6-0. By the half, they were up 9-0. Scoring slowed in the second half, but the Avengers still came away with a decisive 11-2 victory over the Rebels. Colin Waitkun, who scored 4 goals in the game, including 3 in the first quarter, was named most outstanding player. South Kingstown team captain Chad Mitchell scored both Rebel goals. It was a sweet end to a sweet season for East Greenwich. The Avengers were 15-2 coming into the game, but 15-0 in division play. South Kingstown came into the …

Letter originally printed on the South Kingstown High School listserv. I am down in Washington D.C., currently working with the Presidential Inaugural Committee planning the National Day of Service on Jan. 19. For the National Day of Service, we are planning service events in all 50 states. You can find a list of events in Rhode Island here: http://2013pic.org/service. Ehren Schimmel and Doreen Maroney were sworn into the Foreign service along with 92 others before the July 4 weekend.
It’s not often that two South Kingstown High School Alumni are sworn in as members of the same Foreign Service Officer class with the U.S. Department of State, and much less in the same class. Doreen (Vaillancourt) Maroney (‘95) and Ehren Schimmel (‘96), were sworn-in with the 161st class on Friday, July 1st along with ninety-two others. Maroney will serve her first tour as Desk Officer for Spain and Portugal in Washington, D.C. while Schimmel will serve his first tour as Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Having both grown up in South Kingstown, they still consider themselves Rhode Islanders at heart even though they don’t live here anymore. “South Kingstown is a place that I always want to go back to and …
