One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. There were 24 drunken driving fatalities in Rhode Island in 2012, which were 34 percent of traffic-related fatalities last year, according to…

No information has been released about why state and Narragansett police are investigating an apartment building on Caswell Street.
6:20 p.m. – Narragansett and Rhode Island State Police are investigating an apartment building on Caswell Street near the intersection of Rodman Street. Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie released a statement at about 3:52 p.m. stating that they were in the “preliminary phases” of an investigation. Several officers from both departments were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, along with Special Assistant Attorney General Amy Dodge. She is usually the head prosecutor for felony court cases at Washington County Superior Court. As of 6 p.m., no information has been released about why police or officials were at the building. According to state police, Massachusetts residents James Mullin, 23, and Amy Iacovelli, 20, were in the car that hit a police cruiser and other vehicles on Monday morning.
According to a press release from the Rhode Island State Police, two Massachusetts residents were responsible for the high-speed chase from North Kingstown to Boston Neck Road in Narragansett on Monday morning. The people in the car were identified as James Mullin, 23, of 153 Main St., Marlborough, and Amy Iacovelli, 20, of 33 Smith Road, Hopkinton. Mullin was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, obstruction of justice, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest. Police said Iacovelli was charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. Contrary to rumors, no shots were fired. However, yesterday Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie …
Bridget Menna, 81, of South Kingstown, was killed in a traffic accident on Route 295 on April 5.
Cranston Police have identified the 81-year-old woman killed in the accident on Route 295 on April 5 as Bridget Menna of South Kingstown. Police said the accident occurred just before 11 p.m. The initial call had police thinking there was a stranded motorist on I-295 just south of Route 37, but when police arrived, they found several passers by tending to a Menna, who had been hit by a passing car. She was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Police said Menna had stopped her green Kia SUV in the breakdown lane on an angle, "with her tires resting on the fog line," Cranston Police Major Robert W. Ryan said. According to a statement from Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie, one officer was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment after he was hit during a chase this morning that started in North Kingstown and ended in Narragansett.
11:40 a.m. – Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie has released a statement about this morning’s hit and run accident, confirming that a Narragansett police officer and the suspects in the chase were both taken to hospitals for treatment. According to Hoxsie, at 8 a.m. Monday, Narragansett officers became involved in a car chase that started in North Kingstown. Hoxsie said the car driven by the suspects U-turned on Boston Neck Road, almost hitting a state police cruiser in the process. From there, Hoxsie said the car entered the Rio Vista neighborhood (Wampum Road) while attempting to flee, and hit a police car and an officer.
