The second issue of The Mariners’ Catch, the official paper of the Pier School, is now out! This edition is 16 pages. Topics include a seal watch and walruses, interviews with Ms. Santucci and Ms. Chen, the boys’ basketball team and the always popular Cook’s Corner. The Pier School will honor its track and cross country teams at halftime of the boys’ basketball game Wednesday.

Release courtesy of the Rinaldis and the Pier School listserv. A banner-raising has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23 during halftime of the boys’ basketball game. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the banners will be raised at about 4 p.m. We hope to see student athletes, family and friends to recognize the boys’ state championship for track and field and a Southern Division championship for cross country. ***** By the way, that Pier School boys’ basketball team is currently undefeated, with a 15-0 overall record and a 8-0 mark in Southern Division play. They will be hosting Chariho (3-7, 3-7 Southern Division).

HEALTH reports high flu activity in Rhode Island, and the vaccination demand is causing sporadic shortages.

The CDC reports an elevated number of flu cases in the U.S., with the Rhode Island Department of Health reporting widespread flu. HEALTH has listed a number of other public health clinics throughout the state. There is no cost for any vaccination and health insurance is not a requirement at public clinics. Anyone who is insured should bring his or her insurance card. In addition to flu vaccine, pertussis (whooping cough) and pneumonia vaccine will be available at some clinics. There will be a community vaccination clinic for flu, pneumonia and DPT from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the Narragansett Pier School. There is no out-of-pocket expense, and no money will be collected. However, if you have insurance, please bring your insurance card. Vaccinations are recommended for anyone six months old, or older.
