South Kingstown residents McKenzie Laboeuf, Alexandrea Goodness, Jack Wentworth and Gregory Ballinger each took home state titles in the 2012 Pitch, Hit and Run competition during a recent on-field pre-game awards ceremony at McCoy Stadium. McKenzie was the Running champion for the 13-14 year old division; Alexandrea was the Best All-Around State Champion for the 13-14 year old division; Jack was the Running champion for the 9-10 year old division; and Gregory was the Best All-Around State Champion for the 13-14 year old division. Hosted by Dunkin’ Donuts, the Pawtucket Red Sox and CW 28, Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. …

Citizens Bank, in association with ABC 6 and the Pawtucket Red Sox, team up to bring free youth clinics to McCoy Stadium. Citizens Bank, PawSox manager Arnie Beyeler, coaches and several PawSox players will offer youngsters instructions and tips on the game of baseball. The popular clinics are conducted on the field at McCoy. Participating youth need to bring a glove to the clinic. Families are invited to remain at McCoy after the clinic for an autograph session. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Pawtucket plays at 6:05 p.m. against the Buffalo Bison. Why drive to Boston when you can watch Rhode Island’s very own Red Sox for a fraction of the price and hassle?
McCoy Stadium may not have all the history and legend that Fenway Park does, but it also doesn’t have the high-priced parking, food or drinks. If you want to save more than a few bucks, the Pawtucket Red Sox are the team to watch. Opting for a cheaper alternative than shipping up to Boston, friends and I took a leisurely drive to Pawtucket for a PawSox game. We strolled up to the ticket window right as the game was starting. Every Tuesday tickets are buy-one-get-one free if you bring in a Kraft Cheese Singles package wrapper. Even without that great deal, tickets are only $7 for general admission ($5 for children under 12 and senior citizens) and $11 for box seats. When was the last time you saw prices like that?
