Isn’t weather a weird thing?
As you read this, it might be snowing outside… But it might not be. Weather is ridiculously tricky like that. According to the National Weather Service, which last updated at about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, a winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday. The heaviest snowfall is expected from Thursday evening to Friday morning. That is yet another postponement of the nor’easter, originally forecast for Wednesday night, then Thursday morning. Wondering why there is so much uncertainty with this storm? Fred Campagna of Right Weather had a great post explaining why. For what it’s worth, he’s projecting the coast to get rain – flooding possible – and some portions of South Kingstown to get two to five inches of mushy …

Details about a snow forecast for very early Thursday continue to change.
The forecast for a quick developing nor’easter continues to change, as the National Weather Service has published a minor change in the timing of the storm. The storm is now projected to start in the Narragansett and South Kingstown area around 1 a.m. Thursday. On Tuesday afternoon, the storm was expected to start in Rhode Island around Wednesday night. Snow accumulations are expected to be around four to eight inches in most of Rhode Island. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are forecasted, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Travel is expected to be most difficult on Thursday night and during the Friday morning commute. The National Weather Service also warns that the information is still developing about the storm! Therefore, …

More snow is in the forecast for Saturday night into Sunday, unfortunately.
Hey, remember how it was kind of warm this week at times and a bunch of the snow melted? I hope you enjoyed that brief respite. Snow is in the forecast again for this weekend, and as a result, the National Weather Service has released a hazardous weather outlook. The latest storm is still a few days out, projected to hit mostly on Saturday night into Sunday. Initial projections have the storm creating about six to 10 inches of heavy, wet snow, with lower totals near the coast. Wind gusts could reach up to 46 miles per hour, and there could be scattered power outages. The storm might also coincide with high tide on Sunday morning, so local flooding is possible. As usual, we’ll go to breaking updates and daily storm coverage if it’s needed. …

Wednesday, February 20
Release courtesy National Grid. National Grid is warning its customers of a new, nationwide utility bill scam. In the past several days, customers have received telephone calls from individuals claiming to work for National Grid. These scammers demand payment on past due balances for electric accounts and threaten customers that their service will immediately be shut-off for non-payment. In some cases the caller also tells the customer that they may have a faulty meter that is dangerous and in need of replacing for a substantial fee. Callers are being directed to make an immediate, over-the-phone payment in order to keep their power on. National Grid never seeks payment of any type over the telephone and urges customers who have …

Those sleds will get one more day of use for SK and Prout students, as their schools have cancelled classes for Tuesday.
5:30 p.m. – The University of Rhode Island just released the following statement via its Facebook account: DELAYED START: The University plans to hold classes, beginning at 9:30 am on Tuesday, February 12. Crews will continue to work on clearing sidewalks and parking lots throughout the evening. We recognize that campus conditions may not be ideal. Allow extra time to get to class or work on schedule, be cautious, and wear appropriate shoes. Carpool if possible to help reduce the number of vehicles on campus, and be prepared to use the shuttle system to travel from outer parking lots. The parking ban remains in effect overnight. 4:55 p.m. – Also just across the wire: The Prout School has cancelled classes for Tuesday. 4:40 p.m. – Thanks to…

No, for real, this should be our last day of urgent storm coverage!
6 a.m. – Hey folks, as the dek for this story implies, I really hope this is the last day of storm coverage that I’ll have to do. Right at the top of this, I’d like to thank many of you for your kind words about our coverage – They’re definitely appreciated, and in return, I thank you for the uploads to our photo gallery! However, before I turn completely into Sally Field, let’s get on to the news stuff. As usual, for a full list of cancellations and delays in other towns, click here for the RI Broadcasters Network list. That’s all for now! I will update this story as needed throughout the day. Join us for our last day (hopefully!) of urgent storm coverage.
7:55 p.m. – Here is our last planned major update, unless I magically get power back in my apartment before Monday… Thanks for following along, folks! And keep adding your photos to our gallery. 5:20 p.m. – Some later afternoon / early evening updates for y’all, based on information I’ve gotten since this morning. That’s all for now! I will probably update at least one more time before the end of the night, depending on where I go from here. (I’m currently leeching power from the Cool Beans Café in Narragansett. It’s a nice, cozy place to update from, as opposed to my powerless apartment. /commercial plug) 6:28 a.m. – Hopefully, this is the last one of these articles that I’ll have to do! On to the notices and what not… National Grid is …
The South Kingstown School District and the University of Rhode Island have cancelled classes for Monday, thanks to Nemo.

It’s cold and dark, and if you’re reading this, then you probably don’t live in Washington County.
10:35 p.m. – One last update for tonight: Unless something big happens, this will be the end of our updates for Saturday. Check back in with us Sunday at 6 a.m., and until then, keep uploading these awesome snow pictures! (I would especially enjoy seeing more snowmen.) 6 p.m. – Here is a late afternoon update for everyone, after I finally found a working outlet at the Ryan Center, and based on my observations while driving. 6 a.m. – Overnight, the number of outages in Washington County has swollen from about 26,000 to 47,112, according to National Grid’s online outage map, and thanks to the storm no restoration estimate is available. Statewide, about 187,176 customers are without power. The worst hit seems to be Bristol County, with only …
