Contract Expected Tuesday for Interim Manager; Clarification on Story

A clarification to a statement made last week by Meg Rogers, plus, the council is expected to formally announce Richard Kerbel’s hiring Tuesday.

At its meeting Tuesday, the Narragansett Town Council is expected to formally announced a contract agree with new interim town manager Richard Kerbel. As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, an agenda for Tuesday’s meeting hasn’t been posted, and Kerbel’s contract hasn’t been filed on Clerkbase. However, an executive session for a contract agreement was scheduled after last Monday’s meeting. Kerbel is already listed as interim town manager on the town’s website, and he has been issued a town e-mail address. For more on last week’s hiring, read a story from Derek Gomes of The South County Independent here. For more about Kerbel’s tenure in Providence, you can find The Providence Journal’s stories here. The council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. ***** …

Patch will be live at Narragansett Town Hall to provide coverage of tonight's Q&A and candidates forum for Narragansett School Committee and Narragansett Town Council.

Hi folks! Tonight, we're going to be using the Cover It Live applet for the chat, since it's generally easier to follow along and what not. Please excuse any typos I have in advance though, since it's much tougher to edit with Cover It Live vs. using our usual story template. This story and the chat applet should be live as of 6 p.m. EST, so feel free to comment at that point. The forum starts at 6:30 p.m. - For more info, see our preview article from earlier today.

Thanks Tom! It's 5,741 words in total - yikes. And I do always worry about encapsulating what someone said, or at least capturing their intent right. Also, since information about this has changed a couple times on my end - Video of the entire forum should be available on Patch either tomorrow night or Friday morning. I'm getting a copy of it, and then it's just processing and uploading.   more ›

National Grid Rate Hike Public Comment Hearings Begin

The first hearing is Wednesday in Narragansett, followed by a hearing in Woonsocket on Sept. 18.

National Grid is seeking to raise Rhode Island rates on electricity and gas, and a series of public comment sessions begins Wednesday in Narragansett followed by one in Woonsocket on Sept. 18. For National Grid Electric, the proposed rates will increase the company’s annual operating revenue by approximately $31.4 million, or 3.8 percent. The bill impact for a typical electric residential customer using 500 kWh per month would be a monthly increase of $3.97 or 5.1 percent, from $78.05 to 82.02. The bill impact on electric commercial and industrial customers will range from an increase of -0.1 percent to an increase of approximately 6.7 percent. A small part of the electricity rate hike, said Thomas F. Kogut, spokesman for the Rhode Island …

Election Preview: Wilkens Not Running For Council

Councilor Christopher Wilkens will challenge for Teresa Tanzi’s seat, and the School Committee is practically elected already.

NARRAGANSETT – Despite the absence of a current councilor running for another office, it will be a crowded town council race this year, with as many as 12 candidates on the ballot. According to paperwork filed at Narragansett Town Hall for the November election, current councilor Christopher Wilkens will not seek re-election. Instead, he will be the Republican challenge to the R.I. House seat currently held by Teresa Tanzi, assuming he bests Stephen C. Tetzner in a primary. The four other incumbent councilors – Glenna Hagopian, David Crook, Susan Cicilline Buonanno and Alisa Trainor Fleet – are running for re-election, along with eight others. See the chart below for a full accounting of all the races. In contrast, barring a huge write-in …

One thing I don't like about Chris. In many a town meetings he always changed the motion to fit his own needs. He just can't vote 'no'. He always re-words the motion to fit his own needs and wishes? If you think Murray is a clown than you don't know jack about the town. Please stop using the phase, "Gansett". SCB   more ›

Town Manager Miller On The Outs

The Narragansett Town Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, in which it is expected to accept a termination agreement for manager Grady Miller, or to fire him.

According to an agenda posted on the Secretary of State’s website, the Narragansett Town Council will meet Thursday night to discuss the job performance and potentially fire Town Manager Grady Miller. See the attached PDF for details about the meeting. The advertisement for executive session reads that the council will “review the job performance of the Town Manager and to review a potential separation agreement in accordance with RI general laws.” Following executive session, the council will meet in open session to discuss a separation agreement with the town manager and to authorize the council president to sign it, suggesting that Miller’s fate is already sealed. If the council doesn’t approve the separation agreement, there is a …
