Narragansett Police Log: Asleep At the Wheel

A South Kingstown teen is charged with drunken driving, and a stolen car and a sleeping driver are found.

South Kingstown Teen Charged With Drunken Driving Bradford W. Hathaway, 19, of 931 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1:23 a.m. on Jan. 9 and charged with drunken driving and possession of marijuana, and cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor and refusing to submit to a chemical test. Police said Hathaway is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island. According to police, an officer noted a red Dodge Charger swerving and crossing into the breakdown lanes four separate times in 1.7 miles on Point Judith Road. It was a relatively quiet New Year’s Eve going into New Year’s Day for Narragansett police.

Mississippi Student Cited for Alcohol Daniel R. Coogan, 18, of 31 Wintergreen Drive, Middletown, was cited at about 12:55 a.m. on Jan. 1 and charged with possession of alcohol by a minor. Police said Coogan is a student at the University of Mississippi. According to police, an officer saw Coogan walking near Gardenia Lane and Joy Lane with a clear glass bottle in his hands. The officer confirmed that the bottle was Smirnoff Vodka, and that Coogan was underage, and he was cited for the violation. Whoops – No Arrest After Vehicle Accidentally Backs Into Police Cruiser At about 2:25 a.m. on Dec. 29, police conducted a traffic stop of a grey Toyota Camry at the Westbay Village Apartments on Boston Neck Road. According to police, an officer traveling behind the Camry on Boston Neck Road noted that it didn’t have a working plate light, and two brake lights were malfunctioning as well. Four College Students Cited Following Loud Party Complaint on Rodman Street At about 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 21, police received a report of a loud party at 118 Rodman Street. According to police, about 80 people were at the home, with 20 cars parked illegally in the surrounding area. Police noted that in front of the home, there were several empty wine bottles, Christmas decorations and plastic debris. Police said that while breaking the party up, they saw Michael P. Newport Man Arrested for Warrant, Cited for Alcohol Jesse B. Botelho, 21, of 22 Catherine St., Apt. #1, Newport, was arrested at about 11:50 p.m. for a Second Division District Court warrant and cited for violating the town’s open container laws. Police said the warrant stemmed from a charge of disorderly conduct. According to police, they received a report of a loud party at 11 Cavalier Avenue. I'm sure the YMCA has a policy about drug use by their employees Lori. Unless he's a Licensed Medical Marijuana Patient I don't think he should be allowed to continue to work @ the YMCA especially as a lifeguard! Just my opinion though...   more ›

South Kingstown Man Charged With Domestic Offenses Patrick D. Gray, 25, of 101 Cleveland St., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 1 a.m. on Dec. 11 and charged with domestic assault and domestic disorderly conduct. According to police, a 58-year-old Narragansett man reported two men and a woman arguing with one another in the street near Coffey Avenue. Police said upon arriving in the area, they were able to interview two women. Domina, 20, of 18 Wood Cove Drive, Coventry, was arrested at about 1:48 a.m. on Dec. 8 and charged with drunken driving and cited for transportation of alcohol by a minor. Police said Domina is a student at the Community College of Rhode Island. According to police, they received a report of a car in the woods near Ocean Road. A Narragansett man tells police that his windshield and bumper have been cracked for two years.

An arrest does not indicate a conviction. “The cracks had been there for two years.” At about 2 a.m., an officer noted a 2004 Hyundai XG350 partially blocking traffic on the Dillon Rotary near the Route 1 on-ramp. Police said cars had to pull around the Hyundai, which was parked in the roadway. Police said the car was unoccupied, but the smell of burnt rubbed was in the air, and there were two large impact points in the middle of the windshield. Two Cited for Fighting at Spinnaker Court Alexander J. Babock, 21, of 290 Willard Ave., Wakefield, and Anthony Maier, 24, of 26 Indian Head Drive, Sayville, NY, were cited for fighting at about 2:08 a.m. on Dec. 1. According to police, based on interviews the two got into a verbal fight during a car ride home about New York. When the car stopped, the two traded punches near Spinnaker Court. Broken Window Leads to Disorderly Conduct Charge, Alcohol Violation A report of a broken window at a Sakonnet Boulevard home led to the arrest of one man and the citation of another. According to police, they received a report of a man breaking a window at a Sakonnet Boulevard home. Police said they found Petti, Cardello and a third man running from Ocean Road on to Clarke Road.
