Best Mother's Day Brunch - Riptides

Riptides racks up its second win in our Readers' Choice initiative.

With about 20 of the 50 votes cast and a couple comments in favor, Riptides at the Grinnell Inn is the winner of this week’s Readers’ Choice for Best Spot for Mother’s Day Brunch. Coming in second place? Making breakfast / lunch at home for mom. Awwww. As a reminder kids, this also means cleaning up and doing the dishes for her as well, not just cooking the eggs and leaving the rest for her. Also, cereal does not count. This is the second win for Riptides, which took home Best Fries in March. We also profiled the Grinnell Inn back in June 2011, shortly after it opened. Best Sandwich – Island Deli

The Wicked Willow turns out to be the tipping point.

Thanks to Twitter accounts, Island Deli is this week’s Readers’ Choice winner for Best Sandwich. The actual poll results were close, with all four choices – Island Deli, Pick Pockets, the Picnic Basket and others (Riptides, 590 Catering, Ma and Pa) – each picking up between 12 and 19 votes each. So, I went to comments and ratings for the tiebreaker. On Twitter, I got several comments specifically for the Wicked Willow sandwich at Island Deli. The menu describes it as: “So good we put it on the menu twice... Willow Tree chicken salad, applewood smoked bacon, fresh tomato and Muenster cheese melting out of a pressed wrap...Wicked Good 6.99.” … Since it’s about 12:30 p.m. and I haven’t eaten, I’m now regretting doing this article now. Readers' Choice: Best Park in Gansett, SK

What an appropriately-timed poll, given our ridiculously warm weather of late! It is almost as if we intentionally timed this poll for now!

As the weather gets warmer and the daylight hours extend, it's tempting to want to spend most of your time outdoors. Because really, what's nicer than a picnic or frisbee toss at one of our many local parks, or an afternoon with the kids at one of our playgrounds?
