DUI Arrest, And Citation For Pellet Gun

A Narragansett man is cited for disorderly conduct after his neighbors tell police he threatened them with a pellet gun. Narragansett police logs from May 5 and 6, 2013.

Narragansett Woman Charged With DUI Jana-Gae M. Turner, 55, of 1344 Ocean Road, Narragansett, was arrested at about 2:10 a.m. on May 5 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, an officer monitoring traffic on Point Judith Road near Maridee Bait and Tackle clocked a Ford Focus at 29 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. Should DUI Limit Be Lowered To 0.05?

The National Transportation Safety Board recommends reducing the limit. Some say it would save lives. Others say it's unreasonable.

One drink could be the standard for drunken driving – at least for some people if the National Transporation Safety Board has its way. On Tuesday, the NTSB recommended states lower the blood-alcohol threshold for driving under the influence from 0.08 percent to 0.05 percent. What do you think? Is the proposal reasonable? About 10,000 deaths a year are related to drunken driving. The NTSB says the lower limit would save 500 to 800 lives a year. Officials at the American Beverage Institute called the proposal "ludicrous." It said the average woman could reach the 0.05 percent limit by having one drink. There were 24 drunken driving fatalities in Rhode Island in 2012, which were 34 percent of traffic-related fatalities last year, according to…

400+ People At Two Gansett Parties

Two parties on May 4 caused significant disturbances to neighborhoods, police say. Narragansett police logs from May 4, 2013.

Three Cited for Additional Public Nuisance Violation At about 2:44 p.m. on May 4, police received multiple reports about an out-of-control party at 220 Knowlesway. According to police, there were about 400 to 450 people at the property, along with 100 to 150 cars parked in the yard and surrounding area. Police said a DJ was playing music, causing an overwhelming amount of noise, and several people were ignoring a port-a-john on the property and instead urinating along the tree line. One man claims to have gotten kicked out of a bar, and one woman can’t stop laughing during a DUI stop, police say. Narragansett police logs from May 1, May 2 and May 3, 2013.

Westerly Man Kicked Out of Bar Charged With DUI Roberto L. Toledo, 23, of 2C Knight St., Westerly, was arrested at about 1:35 a.m. on May 3 and charged with drunken driving, and cited for refusing to submit to a chemical test. According to police, an officer traveling behind a gold Honda Accord on Point Judith Road near Sand Hill Cove initially saw the car swerve 11 separate times. A traffic stop was made near Old Point Judith Road. Police said that when the driver – Toledo – was asked for his license and registration, he allegedly responded, “I just got kicked out of the bar.” …

Police Make Shoplifting, License Arrests

South Kingstown Man Charged With Shoplifting Gregory S. Sampson, 49, of 88 Dam St., South Kingstown, was arrested at about 8:50 p.m. on April 29 and charged with shoplifting. According to police, they received a report from a security officer at Stop and Shop that they had caught Sampson attempting to leave the store with a carriage full of items. Police said that the security officer caught up to Sampson as he tried to leave in the parking lot with $215.34 worth of baby diapers, baby wipes and containers of Tide detergent. Police said Sampson was arrested without incident. …

The following is a press statement by Mary Road, the executive director of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County, and Deborah DeBare, the executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, regarding the alleged domestic violence murder of Allison Taylor. Elder Abuse is on the rise in Rhode Island. Our hearts go out to the family, friends and community of Allison Taylor. Her tragic death, allegedly at the hands of her son, reminds us how far we have to go to achieve a society in Rhode Island that is free of violence in the home. While details are still unfolding, this tragedy appears to be a clear case of domestic elder abuse. Allison Taylor was 65, and we know that her son, Robert Taylor, 45, was …

Gansett Man Charged With Murdering Mother

Robert Taylor, 45, is being charged with murder after his mother’s body was found Tuesday.

2 p.m. Wednesday – According to additional reporting by The Providence Journal, Robert Taylor dismembered his mother after killing her, as police found her head and hands severed from her body. The Journal said the information was obtained from the arrest warrant police secured for Taylor. Police said a health worker was at the apartment when they spoke to Taylor, and that Taylor had asked her to bleach down the walls. He allegedly told the worker that his mother had left the apartment and checked herself into rehab. Taylor was ordered to be held without bail after arraignment at Fourth Division District Court this afternoon. 11:40 a.m. Wednesday – Robert M. Police Investigating Apartment Building

No information has been released about why state and Narragansett police are investigating an apartment building on Caswell Street.

6:20 p.m. – Narragansett and Rhode Island State Police are investigating an apartment building on Caswell Street near the intersection of Rodman Street. Narragansett Police Chief Dean Hoxsie released a statement at about 3:52 p.m. stating that they were in the “preliminary phases” of an investigation. Several officers from both departments were at the scene on Tuesday afternoon, along with Special Assistant Attorney General Amy Dodge. She is usually the head prosecutor for felony court cases at Washington County Superior Court. As of 6 p.m., no information has been released about why police or officials were at the building. Blue tarps were setup at the site, and a truck from the medical examiner’s office left at about 5:38 p.m. We will …

MA Bishop Charged With DUI in Gansett

A Worcester bishop has already issued an apology for a hit and run accident involving drinking in Narragansett on Saturday.

Rev. Robert J. McManus, the Bishop of Worcester for the Diocese of Worcester, was arrested Saturday in Narragansett and charged with drunken driving, refusing to submit to a chemical test and leaving the scene of an accident, according to multiple media reports. According to a report by WPRI, a car driven by McManus hit another car, but the driver of the car was able to follow McManus to his vacation home on Colonel John Garden Road in Bonnet Shores. McManus is scheduled to be arraigned at Fourth Division District Court on Tuesday, the customary day for non-felony Narragansett police charges.
