Banner Raising for Pier Teams Wednesday

The Pier School will honor its track and cross country teams at halftime of the boys’ basketball game Wednesday.

Release courtesy of the Rinaldis and the Pier School listserv. A banner-raising has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 23 during halftime of the boys’ basketball game. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the banners will be raised at about 4 p.m. We hope to see student athletes, family and friends to recognize the boys’ state championship for track and field and a Southern Division championship for cross country. ***** By the way, that Pier School boys’ basketball team is currently undefeated, with a 15-0 overall record and a 8-0 mark in Southern Division play. They will be hosting Chariho (3-7, 3-7 Southern Division).

Pier School Wins Back-To-Back State Championships

The Pier School boys’ track team takes home another state title.

Before 2011, Narragansett Pier School never won a Division or State Championship in Track and Field, nevermind two of them, back to back.  In 2011 and on May 19, 2012, the Narragansett Pier Middle School boys’ track team accomplished their second consecutive state championship.  They towered over second place East Providence Martin Middle School, 98 to 69.5 points.   “Our team showed great effort in the Track State Championships and came together as a big family,” Chris Storti, an eighth grader and captain, said. “There wasn’t a single person who didn’t contribute and I’m proud of everybody.” Storti was a critical part of both championship wins, as he was responsible for 20.5 points for Narragansett.  He placed first in the shot put, with …

RELEASE: Match of the Century This Wednesday!

It is literally the first middle school wrestling match hosted by the Pier School in this, the 21st century.

Come see current and future middle school wrestling champions Wednesday, as three Pier School wrestlers team up with Curtis Corner and Chariho to take on Cumberland. The event starts at the Pier School at 5:30 p.m. Cole McGill, Jim Sauro and Chris Storti will be taking on wrestlers from McCourt Middle School of Cumberland. Wrestlers from Curtis Corner and Chariho middle schools will round the Pier School team. The meet is the first home one for the Pier School in the past 12 years. Narragansett does not have a middle school wrestling team, but usually sends one to three kids to meets each year to compete as individuals. Pier School athletic director Mike Millen has served as the coach for the past several years. Admission is $2 for adults…

Sports Roundup: Girls’ Soccer Wins First in Romp; Volleyball, Cross County Today

The girls’ soccer team easily handles Davies on the road. Today, the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams start their seasons, and volleyball travels to Middletown.

The Narragansett High School girls’ soccer team took the first step toward defending their Division III title, overwhelming Davies 11-0 on Friday afternoon. According to a box score published by The Providence Journal, the Mariners led 7-0 after a half. Narragansett heavily played reserves in the second half. Narragansett plays at Shea (0-1, 0-1 Division III) on Tuesday. The game starts at 4 p.m. This is followed by the Mariners’ home opener 4 p.m. Thursday against Rogers (0-1, 0-1 Division III). Girls’ Tennis Falls to Portsmouth, 6-1 The Narragansett girls’ tennis team lost its first league game of the year, falling to Portsmouth 6-1 on Friday afternoon. Pier School Athletics Night on Aug. 29

Get ahead of the curve and attend this meeting before the athletic seasons start.

Attention all Narragansett Pier School athletes and parents – There will be a coach’s night on Monday, August 29.  Parents can drop off all the required paperwork to the school nurse and athletic director at the Pier School cafeteria from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Players can sign up and meet coaches, and refreshments will be on hand.    Anyone in grades 6 through 8 that wants to tryout for soccer, cross-country, basketball, cheerleading, track and field, baseball or softball must have paperwork and physicals turned in before practicing or playing.  Paperwork can be found on line at the school web site or at the school office.
