Locals are invited to the South County YMCA on Saturday for Bike Day, an all-ages event that will connect the community with bicycles, bike safety and a healthier lifestyle.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Snap on you helmets and dust off your bikes, the South County YMCA and the South Kingstown Recreation Department will host Bike Day on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the YMCA on Broad Rock Road. The free, all-ages event will be dedicated to bicycle safety and motivating residents to use two wheels instead of four when getting around town. Born out of the town’s Healthy Place By Design initiative, local bicycle retailers and advocates will on scene teaching safety measures, showing residents where they can access the William C. O’Neill Memorial Bike Path, and connecting children and adults who cannot afford bikes with a set of gently used wheels. “As part of the outreach given to the community, people kept …

Bike Day will also feature a cool bicycle recycle event, which most definitely rhymes. (Thus, extra cool points.)

NBX returns to the town council meeting agenda, and the wrestling team returns to NHS for a home meet.
Here are the Five Things for Tuesday, January 17, 2012: NBX looking for zone change. Continuing off a sometimes-heated discussion from November, at tonight’s council meeting there will be continued talk about the zoning change request by NBX. Basically, NBX wants to move further down Boston Neck Road, on to a bigger and more accessible lot, but the proposed move has drawn criticism from abutters. For more on that, and the entire 109-page council packet, see the attached PDF, or click here for town’s ClerkBase entry. The council meets at 7:30 p.m, following a 6:30 p.m. work session with auditors. Tuesday Night Raw! The Narragansett High School wrestling team (4-5, 4-2 Division II-South) hosts Tolman (2-3, 2-3 Division II-North) at 7 p.m. …

Citing a need for more input from the planning board, the council continues a public hearing on NBX’s request for a zoning change to its Jan. 17 meeting.
Following about two hours of testimony Monday night, the Narragansett Town Council deferred on making a decision on whether Narragansett Bikes would be allowed to move to a new location on Boston Neck Road. Donald Packer, a lawyer representing NBX owner Matt Bodziony, asked the council to consider a zone change from residential to commercial for property his client had a sales agreement for. The property is across from Bayscape Landscaping and Nursery and Brickley’s at 922 and 929 Boston Neck Road. However, despite a 4-1 vote from the Planning Board in support of NBX’s request, the council voted 5-0 to request that the board more carefully define how the town’s comprehensive plan and the Bonnet Special Planning District overlap. According …

To the editor, NBX Bikes is hoping to move from 1153 Boston Neck Road to 922 Boston Neck Road. I am in favor of this move. The residential space that NBX hopes to move to has not only been on the market for some time, but is in need of much improvement and/or repair. Matt Bodziony, the owner of NBX Bikes, is a reputable community member with an expanding business who wants to stay in Narragansett. With the other surrounding businesses in the vicinity of 922 Boston Neck Road, NBX would be a welcome addition. Some of these other businesses include Brickley's Ice Cream and Bayscape Nurseries across the street, and a Subway shop, a hair salon, and other businesses on the same side of the street. If traffic should be a concern, a cross walk …

To the editor, Matt Bodziony, the owner of Narragansett Bikes, is both a respectable businessman and a committed member of our local community. Matt is a small business owner and a family man who runs a socially conscious business – one that is considerate of the community and its neighbors. NBX is a value-adding entity, promoting healthful living, and encouraging young and old to experience the outdoor beauty of South County. Over the past four years, Matt has developed this successful business and also found the time to generously organize and support numerous charitable events. He has made a difference in our community and he can be trusted to be a good neighbor. The future for NBX is now dependent on a business location that meets the …

According to a letter, what Narragansett residents don't know could hurt them.

To the editor, Two petitions were recently filed with the town to change the zoning and use of the property located at 922 Boston Neck Road, across from BayScape Landscaping and Brickley’s Ice Cream, from residential to commercial. This change moves Narragansett Bikes from its existing commercial location to 922 Boston Neck Road. There is currently a home and garage on this site. The families that live directly behind this property on Emery Street and next to it on Boston Neck Road oppose the change for all the obvious reasons – Who would want to trade their front door view of a home for the back side of a retailer? But there are additional circumstances involved that all residents should be aware of. Here is what is happening and why…
