A recap of my week in the southwest and hopefully a motivator for you to do something similar in the near future.
This week I’m going to deviate from any major words of wisdom like I have done in the past. These are just a few key events which have occurred over my spring break this week which I would like to share with you in hopes of you following suit in the future. I spent this past week with my aunt and uncle in the southwest; I stayed at their house outside of Phoenix, Ariz. for a few days and we then hopped on over to Albuquerque, N.M. to see a couple of March Madness basketball games. It was a spectacular several days, rest mixed with activity and much to look forward to down the road. In Arizona we went to see a play in downtown Phoenix, saw a Cactus League baseball game between the Angels and Diamondbacks, had time to soak up some sunshine …

There is a spattering of different, neat events going on today, so take advantage. Or, if you must, go to a budget hearing.
Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, March 14, 2012: Make A Difference project needs volunteers! If you like to make crafts, then the Make A Difference project could use your help. The group makes blankets for hospitalized children, and they meet every Wednesday, 9 a.m., at the Center. For more info, click here. Hey, speaking of… The Center is also hosting a book discussion group from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today. The group will be discussing My Name is Mary Sutter. Hey, speaking of, the sequel… Maury Loontjens Memorial Library is also hosting a book discussion group from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The group will be discussing South of Broad. “It’s not what you know but who you know that makes the difference.” The Mariner Grille …

Spring break is what you make of it. If you did not make plans to do any extensive traveling this time, have no fear, as I can be of assistance for next year.
Ah yes, spring break is finally upon us. The dorms may have kicked you out for the week, but this allows you to take some time to explore either your surroundings or a completely new area. Here are some ideas in order to prevent a completely boring vacation. A wise option some weeks or months back would have been to ask friends on campus what their spring break plans were and see if they would be interested in a road trip to a place none of you have been. I hear a few people planning road trips to Arizona to watch the Milwaukee Brewers or Chicago Cubs in spring training. Warm climate? Check. Baseball? Check. Enough said. Going home for spring break is not a bad option, but it is a rather dull choice, especially if you’re getting offers …

Just in case you did not get enough March Madness last week and can not wait until the NCAA Tournament reboots on Thursday.
Step back, catch your breath and enjoy the break in the Madness. The tournament will pick up again on Thursday, which makes this the perfect time to talk about the tourney. Currently on ESPN.com my bracket is ranked 4,230,796th out of the nearly six million filled out on the site, so despite that knock on my credibility about writing a column on March Madness, I’m going to do it anyways. The following is my version of ramblings and rants that I’ve been thinking about throughout the tournament thus far. 1. Watch the University of Florida regional semifinal…
