Winterguard Season Starts for Gansett Guard

The start of 2013 brings with it the start of the Winterguard season, the newest performance team for the Gansett school system.

The start of a new year brings a new season for Winterguard – It’s not called Winterguard because we start in April!  What is Winterguard, you ask? Winterguard is so many things, and at the same time, it is not like anything you have seen before.  Picture dancers and rhythmic gymnasts combined with cheerleading, a drill team and those pretty girls with the flags you see marching in the parade all wrapped up together!  A team will compete to a pre-selected music piece and perform a high intense routine.  Girls and boys are leaping about like gazelles on the Serengeti, then tumbling and spinning their bodies about, and that’s just most intros!  If you want to be on a Winterguard team, you must learn how to use “weapons.” No, don’t worry, …
