Week In Review: Friendly's Closes, Fry Guily Of Murder, Chambers Threaten Legal Action Against SK

More than a year after their discovery, University of Rhode Island officials unveiled several wall murals that had been covered up and forgotten for 43 years. The paintings, which are in the foyer of the auditorium in Edwards Hall, were painted by Providence resident and graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design Gino Conti during the depression era and then covered up with sheetrock during a remodeling project in the 1960s. After back-to-back seasons without a winning record, the South Kingstown High School girls’ volleyball team may be one of the best teams in their division this season, a claim they were able to make for many years. Week In Review: Gansett Wins Tourney; Verizon Workers Strike; Car Thieves Still At It

After the final night of the Rhode Island State Lifeguard Tournament came to a close and final points were tallied on Second Beach in Middletown Saturday night, a clear victor emerged as Narragansett Lifeguards had outswam, outrescued, and outpaddled lifeguards from throughout the state. The eight teams spent six days competing in 25 events for the 2011 Rhode Island Lifeguard Tournament title. Of the seven eligible teams, Narragansett racked up 205 points, with Westerly in Second Place with 184 points and Scarborough in third with 125 points. A Wakefield man with an extensive history of burglary confessed over the weekend in East Greenwich to a series of break-ins in Matunuck,Wakefield and Tower Hill after he was arrested for robbbing a Narragansett Dunkin' Donuts according to local police officials. Allan Jett, 54, of 86 Winter St. in Wakefield was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering after being found with the cash register from a Narragansett Dunkin’ Donuts in his car while it was parked behind an East Greenwich Cumberland Farms early Saturday morning. The 27th Annual Snug Harbor Parade took off from Hartford Avenue at 6:00 p.m. yesterday, winding its way down West Street toward Gooseberry Road as hundreds gathered to watch and cheer.
