CCMS's Nelson Wins Presidential Award

Brian Nelson of Curtis Corner Middle School has been named the Presidential Award winner for Rhode Island in Mathematics.

Curtis Corner Middle School math teacher Brian Nelson has been named the Presidential Award winner for Excellence in Mathematics for Rhode Island. The National Science Foundation administers the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching for the White House, which began the program in 1983 to improve teaching in mathematics and the sciences. This prestigious national awards program is intended to increase status and rewards for demonstrated professionalism, including leadership, in the areas of mathematics and science teaching so that individuals of high quality will be encouraged to enter and remain in the field of teaching. RELEASE: Match of the Century This Wednesday!

It is literally the first middle school wrestling match hosted by the Pier School in this, the 21st century.

Come see current and future middle school wrestling champions Wednesday, as three Pier School wrestlers team up with Curtis Corner and Chariho to take on Cumberland. The event starts at the Pier School at 5:30 p.m. Cole McGill, Jim Sauro and Chris Storti will be taking on wrestlers from McCourt Middle School of Cumberland. Wrestlers from Curtis Corner and Chariho middle schools will round the Pier School team. The meet is the first home one for the Pier School in the past 12 years. Narragansett does not have a middle school wrestling team, but usually sends one to three kids to meets each year to compete as individuals. Pier School athletic director Mike Millen has served as the coach for the past several years. Admission is $2 for adults…

Curtis Corner Middle School To Install New Principal In 2012

Tiverton Middle School Principal Patti Aull will be moving to Curtis Corner Middle School in 2012.

Curtis Corner Middle School will be starting 2012 with a new principal. Patti Aull, who has been principal at Tiverton Middle School for seven years, handed in her letter of resignation recently and will begin as principal at Curtis Corner when classes resume Jan. 3. Aull says there isn’t one specific reason she decided to resign and move to Curtis Corner; she is just looking for a change. “I am looking for a new challenge because often times being an administrator in the same district can get very comfortable,” Aull said. “New blood in the school is always a good idea.” Aull received her undergraduate degree in mathematics and secondary education from Salve Regina University. Curtis Corner Principal Selected As NK Assistant Superintendent

Michele Humbyrd will start her new job in North Kingstown on November 21.

Michele Humbyrd, principal of Curtis Corner Middle School in South Kingstown, received a special North Kingstown welcome Oct. 25 as the North Kingstown School Committee approved her appointment to the post of NK assistant school superintendent. Lynda Avanzato announced that not only would Humbyrd receive a salary more than two percent lower than her predecessor, Superintendent Phil Auger, but she also had volunteered not to enroll in the school health insurance plan, saving the system thousands of dollars. William Mudge congratulated Humbyrd, but said he wished the committee had discussed the qualifications required to oversee the technology department, which was added to the assistant superintendent's job description, before making a …
