Gusting Winds Lead to Delays, Ferry Cancellations

Service for the Block Island Ferry is suspended for Thursday, and local schools are delayed an hour, thanks to 65 mile per hour wind gusts.

Thanks to wind gusts of up to 65 miles per hour this morning, according to the National Weather Service, school districts in South County have delayed their start by one hour. The high wind warning is in effect until 10 a.m. The NWS estimates constant wind speeds of 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts up to 65, for all of Rhode Island and most of southern Massachusetts. As a result, Narragansett, South Kingstown, Chariho and Westerly have all delayed the start of classes today by one hour as of 7 a.m. To keep up with updates on these and other delays, check out the Rhode Island Broadcasters Association site here. Washington County Fair A Hit Once Again [Video]

The Washington County Fair was in town this past weekend and as usual it was packed with people from all over enjoying the sights and sounds.

Always a hit with both the locals and tourists alike, the 45th annual Washington County Fair was full of cars and had to redirect both groups to overflow parking as the main lot filled by 1 p.m. on Saturday. Besides the full parking lots, the lines for the ticket booth and entrance were thick with patrons eager to take in the sights, smells and sounds of the fair. After entering the fair, it is as though one is entering another world. A world of hot clam cakes, carnival rides and tractor pulls. For the little children who only reach their parents' waists, tonight they will have a neck ache from spending the day looking at all the colorful crafts, toys and foods that are being sold by the vendors, most of whom are locals or craftsman from …
