Nom Nom Nom – Girl Scout Cookies On Sale!

Get your fill of delicious Girl Scout cookies with local sales today and tomorrow.

Letter courtesy of Sara Delmonico, on behalf of the Girl Scouts. It’s Girl Scout cookie time again!  Girl Scouts will sell cookies at the following local booth sale locations this weekend: Your support helps spread the word that buying Girl Scout cookies is more than just handing over money for a box. It's about the skills and learning a girl gains from interacting directly with you. It's about the experience of running her own cookie business and working with others, and it's why we encourage you to buy your cookies from a Girl Scout.   To find cookies near you, visit www.gsri.org, or download the free Girl Scout Cookie Finder App for iPhone or Android from www.girlscoutcookies.org. Locals Helping With Sandy Relief Efforts

A truck of donations, organized by Waves of Creation owner Laura Winward, will soon be pulling into New York and New Jersey.

Thanks to Waves of Creation owner Laura Winward, and several other local businesses, a truck full of goods will be on its way this weekend to hurricane-affected areas in New York and New Jersey. According to Karen Forber, who is volunteering and helping Winward, donations have come in from Welcome House, Pier Pizza, Staples, Belmont Market, Sweenor’s and individuals. Forber said Winward grew up in New Jersey and Manhattan, which is why she organized the drive. “She’s been working her tail off on this,” Forber said. Other businesses identified as helping out on Waves’ Facebook page are Liberty Rentals, Point Judith Boats, Job Lot and Welcome Mart. More than 150 boxes have been filled so far. I want to give credit where credit is absolutely due. The original collection and arrangement and delivery of the truck was done by Tina Rojee of Raising Tides Helath and Wellness. We at Waves Of Creation wanted to do what we could to help the cause, and because we have a very large party room in our lower level, we became a drop off location. Tina was the one who pulled together all the …   more ›

Girl Scouts Celebrate Past, Donate and Sell Cookies

The Girl Scouts donate 130 boxes of cookies to a local food pantry. Speaking of cookies, they’re on sale at various spots this weekend.

On March 10, Girl Scouts from South Kingstown and Narragansett gathered at St. Francis Church in Wakefield to celebrate the Girl Scout Centennial.   Girl Scouts of all age levels enjoyed this Centennial Patch workshop, which began with a panel of Girl Scout alumnae sharing their experiences. The day concluded with a fashion show of Girl Scouts modeling uniforms from the past and a hootenanny, in which the scouts, volunteers, parents, and alumnae sang favorite camp songs together. Girl Scouts of all ages ate camp food, studied the history of the Girl Scout Promise and Law, communicated using semaphore flags, challenged their memories by playing Kim's game, and visited a Girl Scout museum of past handbooks, uniforms, posters and other …

Letters To The Editor

LETTER: Spirit of Giving Alive in Tough Times

A letter of thanks from several involved in community charity efforts this past holiday season.

To the editor, Narragansett is known for its beaches and ocean views, but over the past Thanksgiving and winter holidays it has shown its generous heart.  So very many people worked and contributed to the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the Holiday Food and Gift Drive, sponsored through Narragansett Housing and the Narragansett School District. We were able to provide food baskets for more than 100 families and gifts to more than 200 children. It all started in October, securing donations from the community by way of food drives in the schools, and those amazing Boy Scouts who collected THOUSANDS of pounds of food! The generosity was like a wave rolling through town, with the coordinated efforts of the Sprague Fund, the Narragansett Lions Club…
