Accidental Death in Storm’s Aftermath

According to Narragansett police, the death of a man on Arciero Court appeared to be accidental following the blizzard.

Narragansett police said a well-being check on an elderly resident following the blizzard on Sunday revealed the death of the resident. According to police, at about 9:03 a.m. on Feb. 10, they received a request for a well-being check on Charles Strauss, an elderly resident of 14 Arciero Court. Police said that when Strauss didn’t make contact with them, they gained entry to the home and found him, deceased. Police said that the death was not suspicious, and appeared to be accidental in nature. Further details were not released. Det. Lt. Scott W. Perrin led the investigation and released this report to the media. According to online property records, Strauss lived at the home dating back to 1989. An obituary has not yet been released. Per …

Obituary: Sullynette Sanchez, 23

Sanchez died last Friday after a car accident on Route 4, but her baby boy survived.

Sullynette "Sully" Sanchez, 23, died Friday, Sept. 28, from injuries received in a three-car accident on Route 4 in East Greenwich. She leaves behind the love of her life Steven J. Bustamante and their newborn son Daryel. Born in Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of Ramonita Cortes of Providence and the late Ferdinand Sanchez. Sully graduated from Cooley Health and Science Technical Academy in Providence in 2007. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island in 2011 and had been working in the URI Admissions office. Sully is also survived by a sister, Suzette Sanchez; two nieces, Soriah and Angelina, and many other dear relatives and friends. Pregnant URI Employee Dies in Rt. 4 Accident; Baby Survives

Sullynette Sanchez, 23, was nine months pregnant. Her baby was delivered and taken to Women and Infants.

According to state police, a Providence woman was killed in a three-car accident on Route 4 north, just south of the Route 403-Frenchtown Road overpass, Friday at about 4 p.m. The woman, Sullynette Sanchez, 23, of Providence, was nine months pregnant. She was pronounced dead at Kent County Hospital. Her baby was delivered at the scene and taken to Women and Infants, according to State Police Lieutenant Michael Gill. According to EG Fire Chief Peter Henrikson, the rescue call came in at 4 p.m. When the rescue arrived at the scene six minutes later, a bystander was performing CPR on the Sanchez. Rescue took over and got Sanchez to Kent by 4:22 p.m., said Henrikson. "I think the rapid transport is what hopefully saved the child’s life," he …

Obituary: Ian Edward Krebs, 18

Eighteen-year-old Ian Edward Krebs passed away Sunday, Sept. 16.

The following information was provided by Cranston-Murphy Funeral Home and originally posted on North Kingstown Patch. Ian Edward Krebs of Saunderstown passed away Sunday, Sept. 16 at Rhode Island Hospital, surrounded by friends and family. He was 18 years old. He was the youngest child of Julie (Furtado) Krebs and David Krebs. He also leaves behind his two older sisters – Emily and Monica Krebs of Saunderstown – and his grandmother Evelyn (Gillis) Furtado of Jamestown. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was a bright and exceptional young man with an unconditionally kind and giving heart. Police Dog Roki Passes Away

Only two months into retirement, former Narragansett police dog Roki passes away after medical complications.

Narragansett Police K-9 Roki passed away on April 25, 2012 after a short two months into retirement. Roki suffered medical complications and had to be put to sleep. Roki was placed into service in October 2002. He was purchased as a fully trained patrol and narcotics K-9 through Sukee Kennels in Warren, Maine. Roki has worked for the Narragansett Police since that time. Roki was utilized more than 1,000 times in the last nine years. He located numerous breaking and entering suspects, and received a number of commendations for his outstanding performance. He also visited all three schools in Narragansett as a public relations tool, and conducted demonstrations for them, the Boy Scouts of America and the Community Police Academy. Roki …

Connell: Avid Sailor, America’s Cup Racer

Robert A. Connell, America's Cup Sailor Robert (Bob) A. Connell, an avid sailor who participated in five America's Cup trials during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, including two successful defenses, died on April 17 in Miami, Florida.  He was 72 and lived in Wakefield, Rhode Island and Jupiter, Florida. His death was the result of sudden cardiac arrest, which occurred on April 12.  Connell was part of a colorful and competitive sailing scene, where his highly sought-after skills earned him a spot on five America's Cup 12-meter crews: Weatherly in 1958, Columbia in 1962, Constellation in 1964, Intrepid in 1967, Independence in 1977. Both Constellation and Intrepid won the America's Cup. In 1964, Connell enlisted in the U.S. Navy, but he was …

Michael Ice Mourned by Family and Friends, Wake Service in Rye Tuesday

Recent Rye High School graduate and Narragansett summer resident Michael Ice has died at the age of 22. His family and friends mourn his passing.

Michael Ice, age 22, died Saturday morning, February 25, 2012.  He lived in Rye, NY with his family, and spent his summers in Narragansett.  He loved surfing and basketball. Services Scheduled For Crash Victim

Funeral services have been scheduled for 18-year-old Madeline Healey, who passed away in a crash Sunday in East Greenwich. Healey has family members in Narragansett.

Funeral services have been scheduled for an 18-year-old North Kingstown woman with family in Narragansett who passed away in Sunday's early morning crash in East Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial for Madeline "Maddie" Healey is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church for relatives and family. Visiting hours are slated for 4 to 8 p.m. at Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home on Friday.  Born in Providence, Healey was a 2011 graduate of North Kingstown High School and was attending CCRI in hopes of pursuing her dream of working with children. Passages: URI Mourns Loss Of Professor

Assistant Professor Peng Wang died on Monday morning when his car crashed into a commercial cement mixer truck. He was 36.

The University community is deeply saddened by the death of Dr. Peng Wang, assistant professor of chemical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences. The 36-year-old professor and researcher was killed Monday, Feb. 6 at 10:20 a.m. when the car he was driving collided with a cement mixer on Route 138 about a quarter mile west of Dugway Bridge Road. The University community offers its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Ran Luo and their 7-month-old child, Carolyn. Dr. Wang, a resident of Hartford, Conn., was a promising young researcher assigned to the College of Engineering and the College of Pharmacy. He worked as part of a research group that focuses on the thermodynamics of mixing mechanisms of polymer drug mixtures. The group’s work is …
