Tom, if you go to another section of Patch there are more reviews on The Mews and most of them aren't good. Try typing Mews in the search bar and that might get you to the rest of us Mews bashers. LOL

This place really frustrates me. As a craft beer fan, I'm crushed that this is my local "beer bar," because the staff knows next to nothing about the beer, half of the beers aren't available even though they're on the menu, they're served improperly (in frosted, freezer-tasting pint glasses!), and the more expensive and unique stuff moves slowly so it's often stale. The food I've had here as been abominable at best (a sloppy, doughy pizza with raw toppings, rubbery cheese that slid off the slice, and a burnt bottom). Finally, the atmosphere is terrible. It's always filled with loud, obnoxious drunk college students.

I think first of all the review of the Mews by a "craft beer fan" is missing the point of the bar. They have a great selection on tap. They never claim to aspire to your standards for doing it perfectly, but they do have the greatest selection. The best bars to try beer in my opinion will never be anywhere near South Kingstown and that is a reflection on our community, not the people serving us beer. If you doubt me, I dare you to try and accomplish what you expect. Your first problem will be finding a staff who knows enough about anything to serve it professionally and still have the desire to get out of bed for less than $75,000 per year. Your next problem will be finding more people such as yourself who have a discerning taste and know their product that are willing to promote and provide feedback in more effective ways than this. The Mews was founded and raised by beer drinkers who give reviews like this: "I like that one." or "Wow, that's pretty good!"... I will allow they have a great liability towards being more on top of beer expertise, but finding the right help with knowledge and sales skills for that many different beers is almost impossible. As for the pizza there, it's generally better than "abominable". You sound a little bitter.
They have been overpriced on food in the past. Far overpriced. They set the bar for high priced salads several years ago. I can't say they're not delicious (Montreal Steak was GREAT) but I'm not a regular because I pay $17 for salad.
