Your Guide: First Annual South Kingstown Pumpkin Races

Everything you need to know to enjoy a specific local weekend event!

South Kingstown Parks & Recreation invites residents to participate in the First Annual Pumpkin Races this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 12:30 p.m.!

The family-friendly event will take place at the Curtis Corner Middle School playfields in Wakefield. (Meet in the school parking lot upon arrival.)

Participants will decorate a pumpkin, insert two axles, attach wheels and race their creation downhill against other pumpkins! Prizes will be awarded to contestants in three race categories; 12 years and under, 13 to 18 years old and pumpkins made by adults and families.

If possible, racers should bring their own pumpkins (remember, a large pumpkin doesn't necessarily mean a fast pumpkin!), as well as supplies for decorating. Limited kits of wheels, axles and bearings will be available for purchase.

Registration will be completed the day of the race. Entry is $5 per racer, $8 if a kit is provided.

The First Annual Pumpkin Races event is co-sponsored by Carpenter's Farm, (520 Matunuck Beach Rd., Wakefield), who will have a tent at the event stocked with cider, cookies, pies and other treats for purchase.
