Your Guide: End of Summer Festivals in South County

Everything you need to know to enjoy a specific local weekend event!

Kids are back to school, leaves are starting to change color and the air is getting cooler. There's no denying the Summer of 2013 is coming to a close, but that doesn't mean there isn't time for a couple more festivals!

Residents and visitors in South County have two to choose from this weekend! Better yet, there's no need to pick just one, as Saturday and Sunday are both represented.

Ninigret Harvest Festival

On Saturday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Ninigret Park in Charlestown will host its annual Harvest Festival!

Bring the entire family to enjoy live music, art & crafts vendors and food, along with plenty of free activities including hayrides, pumpkin painting, beading, a wood workshop and much more! Also scheduled are a horseshoe tournament at 11:15 a.m. and fishing derby at 2:15 p.m.

Guests can begin to get their gardens ready for next year by having their soil's pH checked during the event. (Bring 1/4 cup soil labeled from each area to be tested by URI Master Gardeners.) Guests will be able to recycle old and unwanted electronics at the Harvest Festival, also.

Although the event is free, a $5 donation per adult is requested (children under 12 are guests). All monetary proceeds and produce donations from the Harvest Festival will benefit the Charlestown Community Garden which serves those who face food insecurity within the community.

Summer's End Festival

This Sunday, Sept. 22, from noon to 5 p.m., the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce will hold its 11th Annual Summer's End Festival at Narragansett Town Beach!

The rain or shine event will feature a kite flying demo, local food trucks and vendors, beer and wine, as well as a merchant marketplace.

Guests will also enjoy a live concert on the beach featuring Brass Attack, Rhode Island's "hottest horn band"!

Admission to the festival is free, however a $5-per-vehicle parking donation is requested in designated lots.
