This Weekend: 'Spooky' Gallery, Historic Home Tour

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.


Gallery Night and Costume Party at OneWay Gallery and Silver Tides, 140 Boon St., Narragansett. A costume party reception opens "Creep Show," the gallery's October art show Saurday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. The reception includes an art showcase and costume contest featuring “spooky” works by Stephen Cook, S.W. Dinge, A. Dolt, Evoker, Reason and Ricki Vespia. It is free and open to the public.

Inside the Garden Gates. Take a look at some of the more sognificant historical homes in town as the Narragansett Historical Society presents Inside the Garden Gates — a tour of eight houses and two churches highlighting Narragansett's rich history — Sunday, Oct. 13 from noon - 4:00 pm. Two homes, designed by McKim, Mead and White, will be featured. A building reported to be the summer home of Edwin Booth — Shakespearean actor and brother of John Wilkes Booth — will be visited. Another home has interesting connections to the Bouvier family. As a bonus, a tour of the SO Rhode Island's Home of the Month is included. Get star struck at the 
Frosty Drew Observatory's Public Stargazing Night (61 Park Lane, Charlestown), this and every Friday night at 6 p.m. Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow them on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about our public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.
