This Weekend: SK Slow Pitch Registration, English Country Dance and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

SK Girls' Slow Pitch Registration: At 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 18, the Neighborhood Guild at 325 Columbia Street, Peace Dale, will hold the first walk-in registration for the 2014 SK Girls' Slow Pitch Softball season. Tablet/Smartphone Workshop: From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, The Education Exchange, located at 33 North Road in Peace Dale, will host the workshop, "Master Your Tablet or Phone". Led by Karen Bryer, Director of Technology for the Groton CT Public Schools, participants will learn how to get the most of their device during this hands-on, interactive workshop. $20 per person. Registration is required and can be done by calling (401) 783-0293. Space is limited.

Hope Valley Indoor Farmers' Market: From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays through Apr. 19, the Richmond Community Center, located at 1168 Main Street in Wyoming (second floor of police station), will host the Hope Valley Indoor Winter Farmers' Market. Products include local produce, meat, fish, coffee, baked goods, jam, soap, Alpaca fiber and more. 

Free Fat-Burning Presentation: At 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library (35 Kingstown Rd., Narragansett), licensed massage therapist Linda Broadhead will explain the role of hormones in weight loss and share her suggestions for improved food choices. Linda has done "energy work" since 1992 and believes that the most effective method for losing weight lies in an effective metabolism. Click here to register.

English Country Dance: This Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the South Kingstown Land Trust Barn, located at 17 Matunuck Road, will host an English Country Dance for all ages. The evening will feature full instruction by Kingston Volunteers, live music by Linda Pezzullo and Bill Ouimette, light refreshments, great exercise and fun. All are welcome. No experience or partner needed. Flat shoes and casual clothing. $10 general admission.

Scrabble Scramble: From 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, located at 35 Kingstown Road, Narragansett, will hold Scrabble Scramble - a place to find friendly Scrabble opponents. (Bring your board if you have one!)

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.
