This Weekend: 'All In A Chord', Inaugural Authors Expo, The American Band and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

'All In A Chord' in Peace Dale: At 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, the South Kingstown Public Library, located at 1057 Kingstown Road in Peace  Dale, presents "All In A Chord", a women’s barbershop chorus. The concert is free, open to the public and will include songs from the 40s, show tunes, patriotic medleys and more! Click here for more info.

Inaugural RI Authors Expo: On Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Association of Rhode Island Authors (ARIA) will hold the 1st Annual Rhode Island Authors Expo at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, located at 3481 Kingstown Road in West Kingston. The expo will feature as many as 40 local authors who have published in a wide variety of disciplines, many who will have autographed copies of their work available for purchase. Hope Valley Indoor Farmers' Market: From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, beginning this weekend, Nov. 16, through Apr. 19, 2014, the Richmond Community Center, located at 1168 Main Street in Wyoming (second floor of police station), will host the Hope Valley Indoor Winter Farmers' Market. Products include local produce, meat, fish, coffee, baked goods, jam, soap, Alpaca fiber and more. (Note, on Nov. 16, the first 24 customers will receive a free pumpkin muffin!)

Community Flu Clinic: This Sunday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., South County Hospital will host a flu vaccination clinic at Christ the King Church  located at 180 Old North Road in Kingston. Vaccinations will be available to individuals age 19 and older. Those with health insurance must bring proof of coverage. Click here for insurance and payment information.

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.

A World of Strings: At 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, The Towers in Narragansett ail host a one-hour program featuring Rhode Island musician Dennis Costa performing on vintage and contemporary instruments in a variety of styles. Costa will include selections by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Issac Albeniz, Thelonious Monk, Carlos Gardel, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luis Bonfa, the Beatles and more. $12 per person.

The American Band at URI: At 3 p.m. Sunday, the The American Band, one of the oldest concert bands in the country, will perform at the University of Rhode Island in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall (105 Upper College Rd., Kingston). Tickets are $7 for students, $12 for non-students and will be available at the door. Click here to learn more. 

Roast Beef School Fundraiser: On Sunday, Nov. 17, a Roast Beef Supper will be held at the Richmond Grange Hall, located at 690 Usquepaug Road (Rte. 138) in West Kingston with seatings at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, green beans, Johnny Cakes and homemade pie. Cost is $12 per adult, $6 per child.  Proceeds will help purchase dictionaries for all third graders within the Narragansett and South Kingstown public school districts.
