This Weekend: Winter Stroll at Trustom Pond, Wild About Reading and More

Here are just a handful of ideas to kickstart your weekend planning.

Men's Over-35 Drop in B-Ball: Looking to have some fun and let loose some stress? Join your peers for recreational fun and good basketball supervised by Glenn Miller, tonight and each Friday through Mar. 14 from 7-9 p.m. at Peace Dale Elementary School (109 Kersey Rd, Peace Dale)  All ability levels are welcome and everyone plays.Note: Program does not meet when school is not in session. $2 per session. History of Trustom Pond: At 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, located at 1040 Matunuck Schoolhouse Rd., South Kingstown, will host "Trustom Pond: Yesterday and Today". Start the New Year off right with a winter walk at Refuge. Bring warm weather gear, binoculars your and curiosity to learn about Trustom Pond’s past and discover the exciting environmental benefits, habitats and wildlife that are present today at this RI treasure. Click here for more details and weather condition information.

Wild About Reading: This Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the Kettle Pond Visitor Center, located at 50 Bend Rd., Charlestown, will host the free family program, "Wild About Reading". Children (ages 3-6 suggested) and their families are invited to enjoy a nature-based story followed by themed activities. Click here for more info.

Sledding Ideas: Well, there's certainly enough white stuff on the ground to make it a great sledding weekend for the kids...and kids at heart! Whether it's Saturday or Sunday, what nearby sledding location do you swear by? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Scrabble Scramble: From 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library, located at 35 Kingstown Road, Narragansett, will hold Scrabble Scramble - a place to find friendly Scrabble opponents. (Bring your board if you have one!)

Wakefield Jazz at The Contemporary: This and each Sunday from 2-5 p.m., The Contemporary Theater Company, located at 327 Main Street in Wakefield, will host "Wakefield Jazz Sessions". The weekly event invites local musicians to bring their instrument and jam with a house band and fellow jazz musicians. Cost is $5 per person. Click here to view the the event page on Facebook.
