Monday Essentials: Gansett Town Council, Toe Jam Puppet Band and More

Town Council Agenda Items: The Narragansett Town Council will meet this evening (Aug. 19) at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall (25 Fifth Ave., Narragansett). Topics of discussions include the approval of security cameras at the town beach, scheduling of the FirmMan Half Iron Triathlon and more. Click here to view tonight's agenda.

Library Free Movie: From 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Narragansett Library (35 Kingstown Rd.) will host a free showing of the Lifetime film, "Betty & Coretta", (not rated), which tells the story of two extraordinary women - Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X. After their husbands' tragic assassinations, the two developed a unique friendship spanning three decades as they carried on the Civil Rights movement while supporting their families as single mothers. Starring Mary J. Blige and Angela Bassett.

Strokers Paddle Club: From 6-8 p.m. every Wednesday night in August, Narrow River Kayaks (94 Middlebridge Rd., Narragansett) is offering nearly 50% off regular kayak rental rates for members of the Strokers Paddle Club! To join, simply show up on a Wednesday evening and rent a kayak. Shortly after, you'll receive your NRK Paddle Club membership card in the mail, which will also allow you to save 10% off store purchases and 15% off rentals or guided excursions any other time during the week, as well as other special offers. Click here for complete details.

Back to School Night: From 6-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, families are invited to the Village Green (325 Columbia St., Peace Dale) for one last outdoor summer concert before school begins! This week's event will feature the beloved duo, Toe Jam Puppet Band, who will have everyone dancing at their seats in no time! Don't forget your chairs or blankets!

Summer Concert at the Gazebo: Head down to Narragansett on Friday night for an evening of music in the gazebo with "Low B" who will entertain the crowd with funk, hip hop and rock selections! This free event at Casino Park starts at 6 p.m.
