Monday Essentials: Free Narragansett Flu Clinic, Ballroom Dancing and More

Today is Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 and here are some things to know about the week ahead.

Free Flu Clinic: The Town of Narragansett and RI Dept. of Health have joined to bring a free community flu vaccination clinic to the Narragansett Community Center, located at 53 Mumford Road. The clinic will run today, Monday, Jan. 27, from 5-8 p.m. and is open to anyone older than six months of age. There is no cost for a flu shot but those who are insured are asked to bring their cards. Click here for more information.

Free Movie at Maury Loontjens: From 2 to 3:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Maury Loontjens (Narragansett Public) Library (25 Kingstown Road) will host a free showing of the 2013 film, "Blue Jasmine" (PG-13). The movie tells the story of elegant New York socialite Jasmine, who moves into her sister Ginger's humble apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together after everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal. (Starring: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard)

Ballroom Dance Lessons: Tonight and each Wednesday evening year-round, The Towers in Narragansett offers ballroom dance lessons led by instructors Sara Barker and Sue Davis. Ballroom lessons are held at 6 and 7 p.m., Tango at 8 p.m., followed by an open practice for all from 9-10:30 p.m. Cost is $15 per person for Ballroom or Tango, or $22 per person for a full evening. Click here for more information.

Foot & Ankle Seminar: On Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m., South County Hospital (100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield) will present Dr. Eric Buchbaum, who will discuss prevention and treatment options for common foot problems such as heel pain, corns, flat feet, bunions and more. This free lecture will take place in the Hospital's Potter Conference Room. Click here for more information.

Star Gazing at Frosty Drew Observatory: This and every Friday night at 6 p.m., get star struck at the Frosty Drew Observatory's Public Stargazing Night (61 Park Ln., Charlestown). Be sure to subscribe to the Frost Drew Observatory mailing list or follow them on Twitter (@FrostyDrewOBSY) to receive status updates about the public stargazing program. This is a free event, however donations are greatly appreciated.
