5 THINGS: Bocce, Baseball and, Uh, Julia Child

Make your Tuesday fun times!

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Tuesday, August 14, 2012:

Why isn’t this an Olympic sport? The South Kingstown Senior Center’s bocce club (and plays!) at 10 a.m.

Nom nom nom! Looking for some good eats? There is a for kids at the Pier Middle School in Narragansett at 11:30 a.m. courtesy of the Narragansett Lions Club.

“Oh, I’ve cut the dickens out of my finger!” Julie and Julia is about the actual Julia Child, and not the portrayal by Dan Aykroyd on Saturday Night Live. Still, it’s supposed to be pretty swell! Maury Loontjens Memorial Library in Narragansett is free viewings at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

mmm, Produce. The Marina Park is at 2 p.m. today.

Are you a small business looking to network? Then check out at Experience Real Estate, at 4:30 p.m. Plus, it’s near Del’s lemonade, which is always a plus, you know.

Cruising but not for bruisings. It is at the South County Commons, starting at 5 p.m. This refers to classic cars, and not those trips Kathie Lee used to hawk. Check out classic cars, live music and food.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON! Starting in early September, we’re going to be phasing out the adding of new calendar events by our staff. This means that if you’re from a group or organization, you’ll have to start doing them yourself. It’s pretty simple, though! While logged into your Patch account, just go here. Adding your event ensures it’ll show up in searches, and be eligible for me to give it shout-outs in Five Things.

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!

Back in the day of multiple sports leagues. On this day in 1959, the American Football League was formed.

Pitching, defense and the three-run homer. Happy 82nd birthday to Earl Weaver!
