Get to the Point Race Scheduled for Saturday

The 15th annual, five-mile road race will take place at Salt Brine State Beach in Galilee.

The 15th annual Get to the Point five-mile memorial run/walk is slated for Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. at Salty Brine State Beach in Galilee.

The race, sponsored by the Narragansett Lions Club, is in memory of Robert E. Sweeney Jr. and Maureen J. Sweeney. Robert, a local commercial fishing boat captain, died in 1997 at the age of 39. His sister Maureen, a mother of two, died of cancer two years later at age 37. The race was started by Robert and Maureen’s sister, Sheila, in memory of the siblings.

All are welcome to participate in the race, and a post-race fundraiser is scheduled to take place at the Bon Vue Inn, which will include silent auctions, raffles, awards, food, music, and more. In lieu of tickets for the post-race get-together, the purchase of a race t-shirt is appreciated.
