Girls’ Lacrosse Takes Part in Spring Cleanup

About 20 members of the team took part in the spring cleanup of the Garden of Hope and Remembrance.

It was cool, overcast and breezy in late April – perfect for a spring cleanup of the Garden of Hope and Remembrance, a memorial build by friends and supporters of the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation

Volunteers from the 2011 Narragansett High School girls’ lacrosse program came armed with rakes and gardening tools.  For more than two hours they pulled weeds, raked out bushes, picked up branches and hauled away brush and debris, giving the garden a fresh new look for the spring.

John and Meg DeCubellis, whose daughter Katie was killed in 1999 by a drunk driver, were on hand for the clean-up effort.

The team agreed to the project at the beginning of the season and thought it was a great way to give back to the community. At the halfway point in the season, and with the weather finally cooperating, this weekend was the perfect time to make it happen.
