Curtis Corner, Pier School Look for Hoop Success

Both the Pier School and Curtis Corner Middle School have games today in the boys' basketball state tournament.

The Narragansett Pier School looks to defend its home court today, while Curtis Corner Middle School will have to win on the road, in their respective middle school boys’ basketball tournament playoff games.

The Mariners are the No. 1 seed from the Southern Division, and received a preliminary round bye as a result. Although both the Mariners and Curtis Corner finished 11-1, with the lone loss coming against each other, the Pier School led the Southern Division in points scored and points against.

After the preliminary round bye, the Pier School beat No. 4E Kickemuit (Bristol-Warren) 69-29 in the opening round. Today, the Mariners host No. 3E Barrington at , as the Eagles upset No. 2N North Cumberland 65-45 to earn the game.

As the No. 2S seed, Curtis Corner also received a preliminary round bye. In the first round, Curtis Corner beat No. 2E Gaudet (Middletown) 68-62. Today, they play at Portsmouth against the No. 1 seed from the East region, the Patriots.

RIPCOA doesn’t list a time for either game, but both most likely start at 3:30 p.m., the standard time for middle school games. And heck, if they don’t start then, you’ll just be a little early!

If either team wins, they’ll play in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. at Portsmouth Middle School, the neutral site location for the game.  The state final is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Bay View Academy.

For the full bracket, click here! And if you’re wondering about girls’ basketball, Curtis Corner did qualify as the No. 2S seed, but the school was eliminated 39-28 by No. 2E Barrington in the first round. Narragansett did not qualify for the playoffs.
