Charges Still Pending for Holton, Now at WVU

Former URI basketball player Jonathan Holton has committed to West Virginia, but two felony video voyeurism charges are still pending in Rhode Island.

Former University of Rhode Island men’s basketball player Jonathan Holton has committed to West Virginia University for the 2013-14, following a year at a Florida junior college, according to multiple media reports.

However, Holton still has two felony charges of video voyeurism pending in Rhode Island, following more than a year of pretrial conferences and hearings.

According to MetroNews of West Virginia, the 6’9” forward is expected to shore up the frontcourt of West Virginia. He spent his 2012-13 season playing at Palm Beach State Community College after leaving URI.

Based on an arrested affadvait filed by URI Police Major Stephen Baker, Holton is accused of filming two sexual encounters with two different women without their permission, and then posting the videos on to Facebook.

Since his arraignment in June 2012, about 10 pretrial conferences have been held, which is not uncustomary for felony cases. A disposition is scheduled for May 29.

Following his arrest for video voyeurism, Holton was also charged with using a stolen laptop while at URI, and arrested for a Florida robbery warrant. However, both charges have since been handled.
