5 THINGS: Steven Wright, Jazz and Mall(rat)s

Five things – satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back! (Good thing you don't have to pay anyway though.)

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Thursday, December 6, 2012:

“That kid is back… on the escalator again!” – Brodie, Mallrats. The University of Rhode Island is hosting a mini-mall at the Memorial Union at 10 a.m. For more info, click here.

“I love jazz music and sad music. I’m a sentimental guy. I’m a romantic guy.” – Fred Durst. The URI Jazz Series plays at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for the general public, and $5 for URI students, and for more info, click here.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s Constitution Day in Spain. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Santa!!! The South Kingstown Guild is hosting Santa on Dec. 6 and 7, but the program is limited to SK residents. For more info, click here.

Give the gift of food this holiday season. Children’s Dentistry of Wakefield is having a food drive from now until Dec. 19. For more info, click here.

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!

In the future – like five years from now – you can tell your kids all about these mythical “encyclopedia” things. On this day in 1768, the first edition of Encyclopaedia Brittanica was published.

“Why is the alphabet in that order? Is it because of that song? Guy who wrote that song wrote everything.” Happy 57th birthday to Steven Wright!
