During the tour, state and local officials will provide Sandy Task Force officials with an overview of storm recovery and prevention efforts. The tour will also give Sandy Task Force officials, who have been working with other states and localities hit by Sandy, a chance to share best recovery practices.

The tour will kickoff at the South Kingstown Town Beach Pavilion and include a tour of East Matunuck State Beach before moving on for an inspection of the East Matunuck By-Pass by Ocean Road. The tour will then continue to Westerly.

President Obama established the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force in December of 2012. The Task Force is working to identify the requirements and resources necessary to improve infrastructure systems in areas that are susceptible to storm damage. Senators Reed and Whitehouse and Congressman Langevin have worked to keep the Task Force apprised of the needs of RI coastal communities that were hit by Hurricane Sandy. This tour is a result of that effort.
