Wakefield Man Sentenced for Medical Kickbacks

Michael Cobb, a 42-year-old Wakefield resident, will serve six months in a federal prison followed by six months home confinement for his role in a medical device kickback scheme.
According to an Associate Press article printed on Boston.com, Cobb was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Boston. He pleaded guilty in April to charges of receiving $120,000 from a bone growth simulator company to order their product.
The Providence Journal reported in May that Cobb’s Rhode Island medical license would be suspended for six months because of the charge, and he would have to take medical ethics courses to have it restored.

According to an article in Bloomberg Businessweek, Orthofix was ordered to pay about $7.42 million in fines and settlements related to the practice.
