Should State Lawmakers Shift HealthSource RI to Feds?
The health insurance marketplace would reportedly cost the state about $24 million a year.
State lawmakers are considering the impact of shifting control of HealthSource RI to the federal government.
The health insurance exchange would cost the state about $24 million a year starting in the 2015 fiscal year, according to the Associated Press. Lawmakers haven't figured out exactly how to pay for that figure, and some are questioning if the state can even afford it.
HealthSource RI Director Christine Ferguson said moving the marketplace to the federal exchange would be "shortsighted."
About 20,000 people have purchased health insurance through HealhSource RI so far, according to the AP.
